4-2-3-1 With Odegaard, Saka and Aubameyang: How Arsenal’s Starting XI Should Look Like Newcastle United

Arsenal vs Newcastle United, Arsenal v Newcastle

Arsenal fresh from a heavy drubbing by Liverpool will host Newcastle United this Saturday. Newcastle had a high-scoring match, drawing 3-3 under new Coach Eddie Howe but they are yet to secure a win. Arsenal will look to benefit from facing an under pressure team while aiming to bounce back with a statement win today.

This could be an easy fixture for Arsenal considering their head-to-head record. Arsenal has won 16 out of the last 17 meetings between the two. Arsenal also has a good scoring record with an average of 1.7 goals in 52 matches played. Newcastle failed to score on 27 occasions while Arsenal drew blank in 11 matches.

Arsenal allowed 17 goals till this season, but from September till last week Liverpool fixture Arsenal defense only leaked 4 goals. Newcastle on other hand has the worst defensive record in the league. Arteta will be looking to have more attack-minded players on the field to get as many goals as possible.

Odegaard was dropped from starting lineup against Liverpool as Arsenal was defensive and looking more on counter-attacking plays, but he will have his place back as Arteta will be back to 4-2-3-1 formation.

Arsenal vs Newcastle United always has goals in it. Let us look at the team manager Mikel Arteta is most likely to field against the Magpies.

Goal Keeper

Aaron Ramsdale (GK): Probably an obvious choice in the goalpost. He is one of the most consistent performers for Arsenal. With Maximin and Callum Wilson in opposition striking option, Ramsdale needs to be wary of unexpected shots towards goal.

Defense

Takehiro Tomiyasu (RB): Tomiyasu played beautifully against Liverpool but strategically he was a bit mispositioned in plays and Mane took full advantage of the same. He will keep his position in the team.

Ben White (CB): Ben White will be looking to have a clean sheet again for the team. White has performed exceptionally well for the team and would have a comparatively easier strike force to deal with this time.

Gabriel (CB): The Brazilian defender was everywhere in the Liverpool match. He has the most passes from the Arsenal team in the match. He will partner Ben White in heart of the defense.

Kieran Tierney (LB): Tavarez was given chance ahead of healthy Tierney against Liverpool. Tierney with additional rest will be in starting lineup to provide more attack from flanks as well.

Smith Rowe, Saka, Arsenal

Midfield

Arsenal would prefer their 4-2-3-1 lineup. The formation will surely have more attack-minded players to score as many goals possible, as early as they can.

Thomas Partey (CM): Partey was less effective in the match against Liverpool but shall make his presence felt in the Newcastle match.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles (CM): The 24-year-old British player will have his place against Newcastle for his pace and ability to attack from midfield and right flank.

Bukayo Saka (RM): Mikel Arteta has preferred Saka for his attacking abilities and intelligent passing in the box. He will have his place in starting 11.

Martin Ødegaard (AM): Martin Odegaard was missing from the Liverpool fixture will retain his place ahead of Lacazzett. Odegaard needs to provide much flair in attack – keeping upcoming Manchester united and Everton matches.

Emile Smith Row (LM): Emile Smith Row will be frustrated with his performance against Liverpool. He shall be ready for the Newcastle fixture to get back on the scoresheet.
