Arsenal Offer Contract Extension to Forgotten Attacker, Multiple Clubs Interested in Signing Winger as Free Agent

Reiss Nelson, West Ham, Arsenal, contract

Arsenal have offered winger Reiss Nelson a new contract, according to the latest reports. The English attacker has only played a bit-part role under Mikel Arteta this season and is set to become a free agent at the end of this campaign.

The 23-year-old has an impressive 3 goals and 2 assists from just 118 minutes in the Premier League this season (via fbref). The Englishman also scored a memorable last-second winner in the 3-2 victory against Bournemouth in February.

With his current contract expiring this summer, Arsenal opened negotiations with Reiss Nelson last month regarding an extension. However, it completely uncertain whether the attacker will extend his stay at the Emirates Stadium or look for a move away.

Now, as reported by the Daily Mail, Arsenal have presented a new contract to Reiss Nelson. He has also been offered a significant increase over his current wage, a deal in the region of £35,000 per week. As per the report, the Gunners are “confident” of reaching an agreement with the winger on an extension.

According to CBS Sports, two other clubs have, meanwhile, expressed interest in signing the 23-year-old. Brighton & Hove Albion and OGC Nice were named as the interested parties. AC Milan, Aston Villa, West Ham United, and Fulham have also been monitoring the winger’s situation.

Nevertheless, the Arsenal academy graduate would prefer to extend his stay at the Emirates. He has been with the North London side since the age of 9 and has progressed through the youth ranks. While the line of communication between the club and the player remains open, no deal has been reached yet. This is because the possibility of a move away from his boyhood club is still open.

The youngster was one of the brightest prospects from the Yale End a few years ago. However, the Englishman has fallen down the pecking order due to a series of injuries. In the meantime, several other youngsters like Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka, and Emile Smith Rowe have grabbed their opportunities to become first-team regulars.

Currently 23, the English attacker should also be aiming for regular minutes at a top-flight club. The former Feyenoord loanee has managed less than 3000 cumulative minutes across 5 seasons at the Emirates Stadium.

With the improved squad depth and options in attack at Arsenal, it remains unlikely that Reiss Nelson could get significant minutes if he does decide to extend his contract. A transfer could be the right step forward in his promising career.
