Patrick Vieira joined Arsenal in the summer transfer window of 1996. The defensive midfielder went to play for nine years and left the club in 2005. Later, Vieira played for clubs like Juventus, Inter and Manchester City. At Emirates and Highbury stadium, Vieira went on to score 56 goals in 615 games for Arsenal. The player was a vital cog in Wenger’s 2002 invincibles. The midfielder went on to win three Premier League titles and three FA Cup victories with Arsenal under Arsene Wenger.

Patrick Vieira retired in 2012 and managed Manchester City for two-and-half years before managing the Major Soccer League(MLS) side, New York City. Recently, Patrick concluded his first season in Europe with OGC Nice. Nice finished seventh in the French Ligue where they earned two points more than that of the previous season. Despite struggling to score this season and being the youngest team in France, the club performed better than the past season.

While replying to Canal Football club, Arsene Wenger went on to say,

I see him more as Arsenal manager one day (than as the French national team coach). Because he is too young to go directly into a national team. I think that his life will be spent on the club side.”

In an interview for the same channel, Patrick Vieira went on to say that,

I think that every day you dream of managing the team where you once played. I spent time at Inter with Olivier (Dacourt), and it is a club that I really like a lot. Arsenal is also a club where I maybe played my best football. Becoming the manager of Arsenal one day, why not.”

Also, the legendary player went on to say that if he becomes the manager of Arsenal in the future, he would take Arsene Wenger for dinner and pay the bill.

Conclusion

Naming their previous players as their managers is not a new thing in football. Recently, Manchester United appointed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as their manager permanently. It remains interesting to see if Arsenal do make a move for their ex-midfielder once Emery and Arsenal decide to part ways.
