Saka, Martienelli Impresses But Two Others Disappoint : How Arsenal Players Fared In Match Against Newcastle United

Arsenal bounced back from the Liverpool defeat with convincing 2-0 victory over Newcastle United. Having done this, Gunners have maintained their undefeated home record against side starting the day from bottom of the table. Arsenal had fairly easy game against Newcastle United last night but couldn’t dominate the visitors completely.

Arsenal Vs Newcastle United Match Summary:

Gunners got back to its possession based football and had 26 attempts on goal. New Castle United with is 4-4-2 formation had 34% possession and managed 9 shots on target. Arsenal was expected to start the game at fast pace and grab early goals, but entire 1st half was quite except for couple of hits on the woodwork by both teams.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang missed a easy goal, hitting the goal post on rebound from Smith Row header late in the 1st half. Newcastle also had attempt on goal but denied by acrobatic save from Ramsdale.

Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martienelli were on target for Arsenal, while defensively Arsenal was less troubled by Newcastle attack. Other players also fared well in the match. Following would be ratings for the Arsenal players against Newcastle United.

Player Ratings:

Goalkeeper

Aaron Ramsdale (7): A goalkeeper who faced so many shots in previous match will feel revealed to deal against a struggling bottom ranked team. Still Ramsdale was alert in the goal and produced some magical saves to keep 6th clean sheet this season.

Defense

Takehiro Tomiyasu (7.5): Tomiyasu performed his defensive duties well in the match while patrolling over the right flank. Tomiyasu showed good aggression also in the fixture and was rewarded with fine assist to Martienelli Goal.

Ben White (7): Ben White got back to his defensive best and also was more involved offensively with his runs in opponent half. Ben White could be the pivotal player from the back line to surprise the opponents.

Gabriel Magalhaes (6.5): Gabriel played more of holding role while Ben White was making his runs. Also the Brazilian showed his authority dealing with set pieces.

Nuno Tavares (6.5): A surprise starter for the match after Liverpool blunder. Tavares was eager to make amends for his Liverpool mistakes. His long range attempts were desperate and needless in 1st half. 2nd half performance was much better and played his part in built up for the 1st goal.

Midfield

Thomas Partey (5): Thomas approach towards game was rather neutral. His lack of runs or attempts to win the ball were main reason for the New Castle to settle in 1st half of the game. He couldn’t control the pace of the game and was substituted in 2nd half.

Albert Sambi Lokonga (6): He could showcased his ball holding capability and progressive passing in this match after much of spectator performance against Liverpool. Still he need to work on passing to shine in bigger matches.

Bukayo Saka (8): Bukayo Saka made adjustment in 2nd half and was able to break the deadlock. He could have scored more than 1 goal but was bit unlucky for not connecting well for first attempt on goal. Hopefully he will be fit to play against United.

Emile Smith Rowe (6): ESR performance was much better in the fixture had good attempts on goal. Unlucky not to score in 1st half with header. but nicely linked up with Saka for the 1st goal of the match. .

Attack

Martin Odegaard (7): Had good runs and slick passing throughout the game. He will be hoping to get recognized and selected for next fixture also..

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (5): Arsenal captain had rather lazy game compared to team performance. He made some intelligent runs in opponent box but needed to be on scoresheet to be ready for much tougher opponents.

Substitutes

Gabriel Martinelli (7): Most impactful substitute scoring the second goal for the Arsenal. His pass to Lacazett was also brilliant.

Alexandre Lacazette (5): Subbed in at 77th min for Auba, but couldn’t trouble scorer. Lacazette had some nice opportunities in front of goal which certainly be counted as missed.

Mohamed Elneny (N/A): Played just five minutes of the regular period after being substituted for Partey.

  1. Ben White did not have a better game than Nuno Tavares. At every turn you guys just keep overrating White.
