Injury Setback For Torreira, Welbeck Cameo, Injury Update On Koscielny | How Arsenal Players Are Looking Ahead Of Newcastle

Arsenal vs Everton

It’s been 5 days since the start of International break and the new UEFA Nations League has already lived up to it’s expectations by replacing the rather dull International friendly fixtures.

Here we look at how Arsenal players have performed in the Nations League.

On matchday 1 of the UEFA Nations League Switzerland played Iceland in the Group 2. The Swiss absolutely battered the Vikings 6-0. Granit Xhaka captained the team into a dominating victory and impressed with his performance.

England took on Spain on the same matchday in Group 4. La Rojas completely dominated the ball against a rather ordinary English team with 1-2 victory for visitors at Wembley Stadium. However, Danny Welbeck almost made the difference coming on as a substitute and scored late equalizer but his goal was disallowed.

But the bad news came for the gunners when Lucas Torreira was substituted in Uruguay’s friendly against Mexico. Torreira has proven to be one of the best signings of this summer for Arsenal and has impressed every time he comes on to the pitch. Arsenal will play against Newcastle on 15th September and will certainly be hoping for his condition to improve. After a rather poor performance against Chelsea and Man city, the gunners came back with back to back victories against West Ham and Cardiff.

Though the Uruguayan has only played 119 minutes in the Premier League he already has bagged 1 assist and has a 95% pass completion.

The gunners will be praying for his recovery after already losing club captain Laurent Koscielny to a serious injury.

Unai Emery seems patient about him and urging others to stay the same,

“He’s working very hard,

First he was in France. He came back to us last Sunday.

We are happy to have him here with us, because he’s our captain and he’s showing us his spirit to stay with  us.

We need to be patient with him because the injury was an important injury. It’s clear that it’s very important to stay with us, working here and showing us that he wants to help us.

It’s difficult to know [when he will be back]. You look at this morning, he’s running, he’s working on the pitch. The progress is very good progress.”

Arsenal will also be without Maitland-Niles and Sead Kolasinac who are facing long term injuries.
