According to Nieuwsblad (via Express), Arsenal are set to reignite their interest in signing Belgian midfielder Youri Tielemans. He has rejected a contract extension at Leicester City and is likely to leave the club at the end of this season. Leicester City would then rather cash in on the player than ask him to stay until the contract ends. Signing a midfielder also remains on the priority list of Arsenal and their interest in Tielemans explains that.
Along with Arsenal, Manchester United are also interested in the possibility of signing the 24-year-old midfielder. Tielemans has been a very important part of the Leicester squad from the time he has been at the club. He has been one of the guaranteed starters in the lineup and has helped Leicester win the FA Cup in 2021 with his spectacular strike from outside the box.
Tielemans will quite obviously attract attention from other clubs too. That is because finding a player of his ability is very difficult and clubs are willing to throw a lot to get a player like him at such a young age. Moreover, he also has very good Premier League experience. That will make both Arsenal and Manchester United in accelerating the transaction process.
Could Youri Tielemans Fit In The Arsenal Midfield?
Youri Tielemans plays a very similar role to that of Thiago Alcantara. The 24-year-old Belgian is calm on the ball and likes to run the game with his passing. He has a very good passing range and can also create plays using short passing. Moreover, he also plays alongside Wilfred Ndidi who is a defensive midfielder. Tielemans will have a similar role at Arsenal as to what he had at Leicester City.
Youri Tielemans takes 1.5 shots and completes 1 key pass per game. He also completes 0.9 dribbles and gets fouled 1.4 times per game. The Belgian also makes 1.6 tackles and 0.6 interceptions while also clearing the ball 1.1 times per game. He also attempts 2.1 long balls per game and has an 83.9% successful passing percentage (stats via whoscored).
Youri Tielemans is an excellent long shot taker and that has been evident quite a few times. He scored his most notable strike against Chelsea in the FA Cup Final in 2021. He took the shot from outside the box across his body to the top far corner leaving no chance for the goalkeeper to save. Now that is something that Arsenal could use, an occasional goal from time to time from their midfielder.
Should The Gunners Go All Out For Tielemans?
Youri Tielemans is still a 24-year-old player but still has the maturity level of Thiago. He is very calm on the ball with very good technical skills supporting his gameplay. There have been no significant errors from the Belgian international which makes him a very strong player. Furthermore, his experience in the Premier League certainly makes him a strong candidate to replace Granit Xhaka.
Granit Xhaka has played the role of a number 8 for Arsenal this season. Although he hasn’t done a bad job, perhaps a player who is habituated to that role could do much more than the Swiss international. Arsenal needs creativity from deep down the pitch too and Tielemans does just that with his wide passing range.

Arsenal will need his quality as they are likely to play in the Champions League next season. They will need his expertise to compete in all competitions and Tielemans will not fail the north London club.
