FAREWELL | Arsenal Midfield Star Posts Cryptic Message on Social Media Amid Suggestions of Impending January Transfer

Mohamed Elneny, Roma wnat Elneny

Mohamed Elneny looks set to leave the club after posting a farewell message on Instagram.

The Egyptian international had just signed a contract extension last summer but has found it difficult to get first-team opportunities under new manager Unai Emery.

The 26-year-old joined the North London club from Basel in January 2016 and has since gone on to make 80 appearances for Arsenal and scoring 2 goals in all competitions.

According to reports in Italy, Italian club AS Roma are exploring the possibility of a loan deal for Mohamed Elneny in this January transfer window, with an option to buy in the summer. The mid-fielder’s social media account justified the links.

Mohamed Elneny wrote on twitter:

“The 14th of Jan is a day that will always be engraved in my heart… Three years ago, on this same day, I joined the Arsenal family… I call it family, because it is how it’s like to be here at Arsenal..I’m grateful for every single moment during those 3 years, the tough moments.”

The Egyptian continued in another thread

“and the many happy ones.. I’m grateful for the one of a kind fans, for the coaches, for the colleagues who became real brothers, for everyone.. I’m grateful for the past and I’m very much looking forward to the future..”

Mohamed Elneny arrived at a time when most of the Arsenal players were injured and he was signed up to provide the cover that Arsenal required. The move looked like an absolute bargain for the Gunners as he arrived for just £5 million and the club was getting a tirelessly working defensive midfielder.

And he had a good first season at the North London club and scoring that wonderful goal against Barcelona in the knockout tie of the Champions League as well as a second place finish for Arsenal in the Premier League.

However, things have not gone good for the out-of-favour Elneny, who has not been given enough first team opportunities under Emery and it has stalled his progress.

The Spanish tactician has preferred a young Matteo Guendouzi in his place and the surely Frenchman has impressed in his role. And with young academy graduates like Joe Willock coming, Elneny’s opportunities look even bleaker.

And also it would be a no-brainer to sell a player who has been given limited game-time and keeping him in a already stacked-up wage budget would do both the parties no good.

In the end, if Mohamed Elneny does leave, no one will forget the impact he made during his three years at Arsenal and the Gunners family will surely miss him.
