Arsenal Defender Set to Move on a Permanent Deal to Spanish Side | Will the Gunners Miss Hector Bellerin in the Future?

According to Football Insider, Arsenal are ready to sell Hector Bellerin on a permanent deal to Real Betis. The 27-year-old defender sealed a loan move to Betis in August 2021. Since then, he has become a very important part of the squad and a regular starter. On the other hand, Takehiro Tomiyasu has been impressive but his recent calf injuries have halted his growth.

Hector Bellerin was one of the guaranteed starters for Arsenal under Arsene Wenger and Unai Emery. However, he had a dip in form that coincided with Arsenal’s dip in form. He has revealed that his decision to join Betis was influenced by an analytics company. This is what he had to say about his decision regarding joining Betis,

“I don’t know what people will think, but the projection that was given to me by the big data was that Betis were going to have a very good year this season, so you can see how these machines work.”

Bellerin has a contract with Arsenal that ends in June 2023. Sporting Director of Real Betis, Antonio Cordon has cleared that the negotiations are yet to begin to make the loan deal permanent. However, the impressive performances suggest that a permanent move is not far away. Antonio Cordon said,

“We haven’t negotiated with Arsenal yet and we haven’t talked about the future. We have to wait and see how the season ends.”

Why Is Arsenal Ready To Let Bellerin Leave On A Permanent Deal?

Arsenal currently have Takehiro Tomiyasu who has been a gift to them this season. The Gunners signed the 23-year-old Japanese on a permanent deal this summer from Bologna. Both the clubs agreed on a fee of £16 million-plus bonuses while allowing Bellerin to join another club on loan to clear his mind and find his form back.

Tomiyasu is now Arsenal’s first-choice right-back and has impressed in many of the matches he has played. However, due to calf injuries, he has also missed several matches. This is when Cedric Soares has stepped up as he has filled the void very well. He has not let the absence of Tomiyasu affect the gameplay on the pitch.

Arsenal still has a right-back on their transfer list this summer but not on high priority. Tomiyasu also has lower wage demands than that of Bellerin and Arsenal have realized that selling Bellerin could lighten their wage bill. They can bring in another right-back with lower wages than Bellerin and one who has more to provide for the team.

Why Bellerin Does Not Want A Return To London After A Successful Loan Spell?

Hector Bellerin has enjoyed a successful season in Spain and would like to stay there longer. Playing in your home country does bring a bit of comfort and it is one of the factors that is not letting Bellerin leave Betis. In fairness to him, his last few years at Arsenal have been rough but he has now started to enjoy his football again with Betis.

He might even be having concerns about returning to Arsenal now. There is a possibility that he could fail again at Arsenal. That is one outcome that Bellerin will be trying to avoid. Moreover, the analytical company rightly suggested to him that Real Betis will have a good season. Betis are currently 5th in the La Liga, fighting for the fourth spot, similar to Arsenal.

Not only Hector Bellerin – the feeling from Arsenal’s side is also mutual. They have moved on from the Spaniard. Mikel Arteta is now working wonders at the club and experimenting with bringing Bellerin back might disturb the flow. Moreover, if the player himself is not willing to play for the club then the pursuit there itself is over. Arsenal should now focus on their high-priority signings before replacing Hector Bellerin at the club.
