According to The Mirror UK, Arsenal are looking to sign Ever Banega from Sevilla to replace Aaron Ramsey, who is leaving the club for Juventus after his contract expires in the summer.
The Sevilla man has been linked with Arsenal in the past, specifically during the January transfer window. Arsenal boss, Unai Emery wanted to sign him in the summer as well as in the winter, but the transfer couldn’t go through due to lack of funds at his disposal at the time. This summer however, Arsenal are looking strengthen their midfield due to Ramsey’s departure and with Ozil’s Arsenal career in doubt, leaving them with very limited resources in the midfield and in need of quality reinforcements.
Arsenal have already signed Denis Suarez on loan from Barcelona during the winter, which they can make a permanent deal in summer for £18m, that being said, Arsenal need someone who can partner him in the midfield and Ever Banega seems to be perfect candidate for that role according to reports.
He has been in great form this season, playing as Central/Defensive Midfielder for most part of the season, he has already made the most number of tackles, most recoveries, created more chances, scored more goals and provided more assists than any other Arsenal midfielder at the moment.
According to the report in the Mirror, Arsenal have opened talks with Sevilla over signing of 30-year-old Ever Banega for £17m during the summer as the most likely Aaron Ramsey replacement for Arsenal.
Ever Banega has played under Unai Emery in Valencia and has also won three back to back Europa League titles with Sevilla under Emery’s regime there.
Earlier into the season, when asked about Banega’s potential transfer, Unai Emery said,
“I know he’s a good player, I can’t say more but the club is working on it “.
As seen this season, Arsenal have traditionally preferred entering the field with the midfield of Torreira, Xhaka and Guendouzi in recent matches, however they have been not able to create enough chances for the likes of Aubameyang and Lacazette to benefit from and this in turn has led to the resultant loss of form and poor results.
New boy Denis Suarez has made a few substitute appearances and from the looks of it he will play an important role in rest of the season. Torreira has been Arsenal’s best player in the midfield this season but you can’t say the same thing about Xhaka and Guendouzi, as they have both failed to control the midfield and create chances when needed.

This is where Ever Banega can actually help Arsenal a lot and change the entire dynamic of the midfield with his presence. Banega is a very versatile as well as hardworking player and he has ability to pull the strings from the midfield.
Having played with Unai Emery before, he’s aware of his tactics and style of play, hence adaption to the manager’s style of play and requirements will not be much of a problem for the Argentinian. He also has a lot of top flight experience under his belt, which can effectively help youngsters like Guendouzi and Maitland Niles to seamlessly develop and realise their maximum potential.
The only problem with this deal is Arsenal’s budget, which is said to just around £50-60m in which they are said to be prioritising the search for a left-back and wide forward player. If Arsenal manage to sign both, Denis Suarez and Ever Banega, on permanent deals then, next season their midfield can feature the formidable combination of Lucas Torreira, Denis Suarez and Ever Banega to stand tall at the heart of the Arsenal midfield.
