Revealed: How Arsenal Plan to Execute a Net £70m+ Move For Primary Creative Midfield Target

James Maddison, Arsenal

Arsenal are stepping up their interest to secure the services of Leicester City midfielder James Maddison in an attempt to bolster their squad, as reported by Daily Mail.

Arsenal are in dire need of a playmaker. After Martin Odegaard returned to Real Madrid at the end of his loan spell. Emile Smith Rowe, who recently signed a five-year contract with the Gunners and also received the number 10 shirt, is the only creative midfielder in the squad at this time and is too young to take the full responsibility of running the team.

Arteta wants to add creativity to his midfield and James Maddison is considered as the primary target for Arsenal to fulfil this wish. The Foxes midfielder is highly rated by the Gunners boss and reportedly wants to join the North London club.

According to reports, Arsenal are willing to include some players in the deal in an attempt to sign the English midfielder. A deal for the 24-year-old playmaker would cost a huge amount of money as Leicester have been adamant in terms of their asking price.

It is believed that even a staggering £50m will not be enough to convince Leicester, but Arsenal are ready to include a fringe player like Reiss Nelson or Ainsley Maitland-Niles to sweeten the deal. It is believed that this would bring the Foxes to the negotiation table.

According to BBC Sport’s Simon Stone, the Foxes are interested in Arsenal midfielder Ainsley Maitland-Niles. Another helping point could be Leicester’s need for a wide forward like Reiss Nelson, which might be the perfect catalyst to sign Maddison this summer.

Last summer, the Foxes rejected a £70m deal for Maddison from a Premier League club. Moreover, the player signed a new four-year contract worth £100,000-a-week last year. This makes it more difficult for the Gunners to strike a deal, especially with Brendan Rogers being in a strong bargaining position.

Despite missing around 5 months due to injuries over the past two seasons, he is the only player in the Premier League to have created 100+ chances from both open-play and set-play since the start of the 2018-2019 season, according to Squawka. Maddison alone has created as many chances from set-pieces as Arsenal have managed as an entire team.

James Maddison offers a goal threat from distance and from a dead ball situation, an area that Arsenal aren’t exactly renowned for and need to reinforce. He strikes the ball very clean and with power and can also offer a supply route to the flanks.

A proven Premier League player, who has been one of the most consistent and trusted players for Brendan Rodgers, though he struggled to regain his place in the first team after his hip problem, he will certainly add huge value to the current Arsenal squad. ‘Arteta ball’ seems to lack creativity and flair – something in which Maddison excels.

Arsenal should act fast now. Out of the three signings, only Ben White is supposedly a starter. Having secured Lokonga and Tavares, the backup options are now sorted. About 20 days to go for the Premier League season to start and Arsenal need to act quickly to get their deals through, they cannot lose points in the first few games and risk their season once again.
