According to reports, Arsenal have lodged an opening bid to try and price away Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus this summer. After multiple weeks of expressing their interest in the City striker, the Gunners have finally made their first official attempt at bringing the Brazilian to North London.
Arsenal are preparing for the potential departure of two first-team strikers – Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah. With the Gunners looking to add firepower to their attack next season, Gabriel Jesus emerged as the North London club’s number one target for next season.

Meanwhile, Manchester City recently posted on their official website that they reached an agreement in principle to sign Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund. With the arrival of a proven and talented young striker in Haaland, Jesus would definitely see his already minimal minutes at the Etihad Stadium dwindle even further. The shortage of strikers at the Emirates Stadium can provide a platform for the 25-year-old to prove his mettle.
Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano reported last week that Arsenal are preparing their opening bid to sign City striker Gabriel Jesus in the upcoming transfer window. The Citizens are looking for a fee of around £51 million (€60m) for the Brazilian striker.

Now, reports suggest the Gunners have ramped up their pursuit of the Brazilian striker by submitting an opening offer. According to Goal Brazil (via Mirror), Arsenal have lodged an opening bid of £42 million (€50m) for Gabriel Jesus.
Jesus is said to be interested in joining the Gunners, given the prospect of linking up once again with Mikel Arteta. Marcelo Pettinati, Jesus’ agent, is apparently very impressed with Arteta’s plans and considers a move to North London as a serious possibility. Pettinati said:
“We had discussions with Arsenal about Gabriel Jesus and yes, we like the project,”
“It’s a serious possibility so we’re discussing.”
“He’s now focused on final games with Manchester City, then we’ll see what happens.”
As per ESPN, Man City are expecting the 25-year-old to ask permission to leave the club this summer and submit a transfer request. And in case of such an event, manager Pep Guardiola would not block a move for the Brazil international.

Looking at Jesus’ numbers when compared to the current Arsenal forwards, the Brazilian is a notch above his competition. Though Bukayo Saka (11) and Emile Smith Rowe (10) have more goals than Jesus (8) in the Premier League, the Brazilian averages a goal every 224 minutes while Saka does so every 257’ and Smith Rowe every 187’, which is considerably better. Jesus ranks higher with 9 assists, with Lacazette coming in second with 7 (Stats from Transfermarkt).
Jesus is clearly a dominant forward, potent in chance creation as well as finishing. He is the sort of striker that Arsenal need right now, a forward who can sync well with quick and crafty players like Saka and ESR while bringing in the mentality of a proven winner to the team. Having won several accolades with City, Jesus can become a source of motivation at the club.
