Arsenal’s Summer Plans Will Make or Break Emery’s Second Season In Charge And Here Is What Lies Ahead

Arsenal, gunners transfer news, Arsenal transfer window, transfer window

So, Arsenal finished 5th and at some point, the team will reflect on the points they dropped in the last three weeks of the campaign. Just one win, which was achievable, would have been enough to secure third. It wasn’t to be and to be honest, it wasn’t deserved.

Now, with the Europa league final just weeks away, attention is beginning to turn to what happens after everything in the season is concluded. It sounds very dramatic, but the next few months could be a defining period for Arsenal football club.

Depending on the strategy for the next season in the premiership, it will either see them progress as a team after a period of substantial investment and the introduction of academy players or continue the decline, something that has been ongoing for 12 years.

The success or failure of that strategy could be critical for this revamped management team from the coach to the director of football and in particularly the owner.

Kroenke Senior has been dodging bullets for years, leaving Gazidis and Wenger to provide his protection behind a mist of blame, but the decisions that are imminent mean there is nowhere left to hide.

Yet, Kroenke has that ability to think ahead of the explosion and seek cover and I’m even more convinced that Josh Kroenke will take the reigns as a replacement chairman this summer or next, but much will hinge on how the new campaign develops.

Kroenke Senior is a hate figure for supporters. He is the perceived cause for continuous failure, the bogeyman of North London and the unscrupulous villain with bad intent that hides in the shadows.

The first stage of this drama will be the transfer window which is a statement of intent for any fan and signals the club’s ambition or a lack of it.

Should Arsenal be unclear with their message, seemingly confused about their targets or unwilling to spend. Stan Kroenke may start to feel like he’s been savaged by an amorous silver black gorilla and that the heavens have fallen around his shoulders.

The coach will be forgiven to a large degree because of those above him calling the shots and signing the cheques, but the same can’t be said for Raul Sanllehi (head of football), Vinai Venkatesham and Kroenke himself.

As the new season unfolds, the new structure will be hoping that Unai Emery can navigate the most competitive league in the world and deliver some form of silverware or mount a challenge for the premiership.

The title is unlikely, but a measure of progress will be how close they run City and Liverpool and whether they can get back in the top four.

If, for instance, Arsenal are in the same position next term as they are this. If the quality of the performance isn’t there and a determined effort isn’t noted against the elite clubs and the divisions party pooper’s, then the repercussions will engulf the Emirates.

The club also need to show that they have a grasp of the situation in terms of tying Aubameyang and Lacazette down to long term contracts and building a team that can provide them with the service they need.

Arsenal need to be…well, more Arsenal, bursting with the quality and creativity, the type that they have been associated with for nearly three decades.

If Kroenke and Co can’t steer the ship to the promised land, then they should get off as soon as possible.

Anti Kroenke , anti Gazidis but always a gooner. Still wishes he could watch from the stands at the Highbury library.
