Arsenal Make Contact After Identifying £55m Rated Star Striker as The Man to Lead Them; What Does it Mean For Alexandre Lacazette?

According to Marca, Arsenal had made contact with the Serbian international Luka Jovic. The 24-year-old forward’s career has gone all downhill after joining Real Madrid in 2019. Jovic has not at all turned up as expected and neither Zidane nor Carlo Ancelotti seems to be on board with Jovic in their playing XI.

Real Madrid signed the Serbian forward for €60 million three years ago on a six-year contract. This means he still has a contract that expires in 2025 but has barely contributed in the first three years. Jovic has only made 49 appearances for Real Madrid while also spending six months on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt.

He rarely gets any game time but to be fair it is difficult to start ahead of Karim Benzema, especially when Benzema is in this kind of form. However, for the price that he was signed, he was expected to do a lot more and was thought of as a potential replacement for Benzema. He is nowhere near to replacing the Frenchman and is not getting fed up with this situation in the Spanish Capital.

Why Are The Gunners Going After Jovic?

Luka Jovic has scored only 3 goals while assisting 4 in 49 appearances while at Real Madrid. He also made 18 appearances in the Bundesliga with Eintracht Frankfurt on his loan spell (stats via whoscored). There also he had a poor goal-scoring record as he scored just 4 goals and assisted just 1 during his loan stay in Germany.

However, a club like Real Madrid would only invest so much money if they see the potential. Jovic is a versatile striker who can fit in comfortably in different systems around him. He can either play as a lone striker or even with a strike partner. He was one of the most clinical finishers when he was at the peak of his career yet.

Luka Jovic is very comfortable in using both his feet and is also strong in the air to win aerial duels. Moreover, he also has the pace to make runs in behind that trouble the opposition defence. He judges the bounce of the ball very well as it can spin or curve mid-air and that helps him to get an edge in duels involving aerial balls. Moreover, he is also an excellent dribbler of the ball and his physical strength makes it very difficult for others to win the ball from him.

Should Arsenal Give Jovic A Chance At London?

Arsenal have already revived Martin Odegaard’s career who was also a Real Madrid player. The club may believe that they could replicate that with Luka Jovic too. However, his gameplay has been below par, and Arsenal only needs strengthening after a strong season. Real Madrid may demand more than the required money as Jovic still has three more years left on his contract.

The next summer transfer is going to be very important for Arsenal and they should minimize their risks while recruiting. Signing Luka Jovic could be very risky for Arsenal as the Gunners need two first-team strikers right now. However, the goals won’t be guaranteed if Arsenal signs the Serbian international.

The Gunners need more prolific strikers right now who are at the peak of their form. Players who are developing or learning could also be seen as an option. However, Luka Jovic has hit rock bottom at Real Madrid and even a half-year loan did not have any effect on the player. Arsenal have to avoid wasting their funds and make the perfect signings in order to win trophies in the coming years. They can find a few better options than Jovic at the moment, like Alexander Isak.
