Having already completed business worth around ₤75 million this summer, the Gunners are looking to add another midfielder to their squad. According to reports, Arsenal are interested in Lille’s Portuguese midfielder Renato Sanches.
The 23-year-old midfielder has been a major topic of discussion for many big European clubs in this summer transfer window. The Gunners will face competition from fellow Premier League rivals Liverpool while Catalan heavyweights FC Barcelona also seem to be interested in signing the Portuguese midfielder.
Sanches made 27 appearances in all competitions for LOSC Lille in the 20-21 campaign. He was an instrumental part of Christophe Galtier’s team that won the Ligue 1 title last season. He also had an impressive Euro 2020 campaign with Portugal.
Although Sanches’ current contract at the Ligue 1 club runs till 2023, the Gunners are keen to add him to their ranks before the transfer window closes. Mikel Arteta wants to add a new central midfielder to bolster his midfield options after last year’s disappointing performance and the Spaniard considers the Lille player as one of his key targets.
According to TuttoMercatoWeb via TBR, Arsenal have opened negotiations with LOSC Lille to sign Renato Sanches this summer. Nevertheless, the French club have an unshakable stance on the player’s value and have set a reported asking price of ₤30 million.
Mikel Arteta is yet to find a permanent solution to his midfield problem. The Spanish head coach wants to sign a midfield partner for Thomas Partey this summer. Bringing the Portuguese starlet to the Emirates will add more pace and creativity in the midfield for the Gunners.
Meanwhile, talks for Real Madrid midfielder Martin Odegaard have settled down in North London. The Norwegian was Arteta’s key target this summer, but he is staying put in the Spanish capital as Carlo Ancelotti has firmly expressed his desire to keep the player at Bernabeu.

However, the latest reports claim Liverpool have moved into the pole position to sign the midfielder beating Barcelona and Arsenal to his signature. Having already signed Ibrahima Konate, Jurgen Klopp wants to add a few more players before the transfer window closes and has identified Sanches as the perfect player to replace Georginio Wijnaldum.
In the meantime, RB Leipzig playmaker Marcel Sabitzer is of major interest too for the North London side. The attacking midfielder will cost around £15 million, which is an affordable figure for Arsenal. Arsenal are also looking at Olympique Lyon’s Bruno Guimaraes to fulfil their midfield void.
