It’s reported that Unai Emery has turned scouts to attend recent matches involving Getafe’s Togolese defender Djene Dakonam, who has impressed in La Liga this season.
The central defender is under contract until 2021, but could be available for £31m, which will obviously require a sale or two from Arsenal’s existing shambolic defence. The current Arsenal squad has a lot of substandard defenders and are in desperate need for an upgrade.

Emery has been preoccupied by defensive problems, which have cost the gunners a champions league spot by continuously giving pointless goals away. It’s no secret that Arsenal have lacked a strong defensive partnership for years. They have a couple of decent options in Sokratis and Holding but as a a pair, I’m not sure.
Arsenal do need a strong, determined defender who is alert to danger, has positional awareness and good levels of physicality, exactly the qualities Djene Dakonam possesses. Teams have tended to walk through Arsenal’s defence, overwhelm them down the flanks or profit from balls over the top or from set pieces.
Arsenal have shipped 28 more goals than Manchester City, 27 more than Liverpool, 14 more than Spurs and Chelsea. It can be considered as a large part of the reason that Arsenal’s challenge for a 4th place finish, fell away towards the end of the season.
Emery, was recently spotted in the Mestalla as Valencia took on Getafe in La Liga and although one could easily explain that visit as a fact finding mission for Arsenal’s Europa league clash against Valencia, it’s said that the Spaniard had other reasons for attending and paid particular attention to the performance of Djene Dakonam.

There are a host of names set to leave the Emirates this summer as Emery rings the changes.
Mustafi, Chambers, Jenkinson, Monreal and Koscielny, could all be moved on, but the latter two may just secure a 12 month extension during the rebuilding process.
Djene Dakonam could be an ideal signing for the Gunners in the summer as Emery looks to strengthen his team and challenge for titles next season.
