Rumour has it that Arsenal are busy trying to tie off the loose ends on three deals but they may not be the last arrivals during a frantic transfer window that will see a dramatic turnover in outgoing and incoming personnel. Quite who the trio are is down to speculation with names like White, Lokonga, and Maddison now being joined by Aouar, Silva, and Kessie, but unless Arsenal make major sales and are financially supported by the Kroenkes, the majority of these names seem incredibly unlikely.

For instance, there are four midfielders on that list with only Lokonga being the subject of a firm bid, but the latest news is that terms have been agreed with the player, and it’s now about the asking price. Elsewhere, Brighton have indeed been offered a deal for CB Ben White with the player keen to move to the Emirates, but both clubs are still in discussions regarding a final fee.

As far as we are aware, the Maddison situation is based purely on Mikel Arteta’s admiration of the technically gifted midfielder and nothing more. He certainly fits the Arsenal brief, but so do the other names mentioned daily in the press reports.

Some are reporting that the Leicester City player has already been signed and if true, that would be a complete departure from the Gunners’ protracted negotiations of the past. It would also be a deal that would be difficult to keep secret in the long term.

Kessie is seemingly a shot in the dark due to his failure to extend his contract with AC Milan, so naturally, Arsenal are a likely destination but let’s not look too heavily into that, or the falling value of Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar which has slumped from £53m to £20m in a season.

Last two occasions, I’ve seen him in action. One could be forgiven for wondering what all the fuss was about and that Arsenal had dodged an expensive bullet. Neves is a far better and attractive proposition in my mind and he’s premier league ready. So at this moment in time, we can assume that the White and Lokonga transfer deals are at an advanced stage and only the notorious reluctance of Arsenal to part with cash will completely scupper both.

Speculation continues that the North London outfit are looking to jettison Alexandre Lacazette in preference of Eintracht Frankfurt’s Andre Silva who would cost at least £34m, but that would depend on interested clubs willing to meet the Frenchman’s sizeable wages of around £200,000 per week.

The math isn’t adding up on some of these transfer deals, although it can’t be denied that a great many are of interest to Arsenal fans as we enter the silly season of transfers, excitement needs to be tempered with caution to avoid disappointment.

One massively inventive punt is the swap story involving Lucas Torriera and Joaquin Correa of Lazio, however, Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano has poured cold water on that suggestion with the Argentinian establishing himself at the club and international levels. He suggests that neither party is connected to the story of Correa’s departure and that only Torreira would be involved in any potential deal depending on price.

So, we move on to the right-back position that has proved to be an issue last season and although Brazilian Emerson Royal (22) would be perfect, he may just be too difficult to snag. He would probably only cost £20m plus from Barcelona and obviously, Arsenal have an advantage with Edu in the technical director’s post, but with all the priorities in midfield and the centre of defence, this deal could be easily lost in the complicated scramble.

Left-back cover for Kieran Tierney could still take the shape of either Crystal Palace’s Patrick van Aanholt or Southampton’s Ryan Bertrand, which perhaps won’t appeal to the majority of fans, but it’s not an easy sell being the understudy to someone like Tierney. One could argue that it might appeal to either at the ages of 30 and 31 respectively and that it’s probably a short-term measure to remove the issues we’ve encountered during Tierney’s absences.
