Arsenal On The Verge Of Turning Into A Mid-Table Club If Things Continue The Way They Are.

Arsenal, Kroenke, Arsedevils

Arsenal’s stagnation under Kroenke and his yes men continues. That’s not good news for Emery. Still no word of incomings at the Emirates but plenty of news of those heading out. Only the arrival of Brazilian wonder kid Gabriel Martinelli appears to be definite, after that, Arsenal appear to be linked with Liverpool’s cast off’s.

Recent stories of arrivals have included the names of Daniel Sturridge, a better version of Danny Welbeck and Alberto Moreno, a quicker version of Nacho Monreal. Actually, I may be faster than Monreal, so disregard that.

Yes people, that’s where we are at present, an underachieving, poorly financed club, that has a history of buying cheap, inferior players and who are no longer in a position to rebuild a broken team.

The pointless Denis Suarez loan deal was perhaps an indicator of just what lay in store this summer, with Arsenal declaring that any money raised will be reinvested in the squad, that’s according to the Chuckle Brothers, Raul Sanllehi and Vinai Venkatesham.

This was clearly a polished way of saying that funds will be in short supply and that Emery needs to sell heavily at Arsenal. Both The Chuckle Brothers sing invisible Stan’s song and chant his mantra with feeling. I’m more convinced than ever that this duo are just another slick way of presenting shit news with a wide smile, delivered with the rhetoric of a sleazy politician in an expensive suit.

Fortunately, Unai Emery is a man who takes bad news well and in turn, dresses it up as if it’s good. He’s the sort of man that goes in to a burning building to appreciate the smoke. The type of man that loses a limb but announces savings on shoes or gloves. However, despite the Spaniards sunny disposition and agreeable nature, Emery is in real danger of being ousted next season, not because he’s done anything wrong but because he can’t build a luxury hotel out of straw.

Kroenke’s henchmen have made it clear that the billionaire won’t be making emergency funds available to make Arsenal more competitive. As I’ve said many times before, Arsenal is a commodity and a vehicle for attracting commercial revenue streams regardless of its ability to win anything. Sadly, if this prophecy about Emery comes true, it will be managed in same same champagne and caviar fashion to protect the imbeciles in the boardroom and its impotent owner.

Read this next part at your own peril and I take no responsibility for the offence it causes. Arsenal are becoming the new West Ham, splashing out on the odd occasion, taking players past their sell by dates and one that thinks that a mid table finish is a good season.

At this rate, Arsenal may become the next Crystal Palace, enjoying the odd success against the top sides but still ending up in the lower end of the premier league table. Perhaps they will have one stand out star at that point, one that has to be sold to strengthen a desperately average team, simply to survive in the league for another two or three seasons.

They say that Arsenal’s position is because of its failure to qualify for the Champions league. Let’s have a look at that argument shall we. Arsenal are in their third year without qualifying for the CL.

Under Arsene Wenger, Arsenal qualified every season for 21 years but the investment only came about late in the Frenchman’s reign, there was no guarantee that reaching the competition freed up more funds for players, in fact it was the opposite.

Please don’t mention Ozil, Sanchez, Aubameyang or Lacazette as proof that Kroenke has invested big money in the club over his ownership, it won’t wash when Arsenal allowed the sale of its assets to pay off bank loans. The saying is ‘no news is good news’ but in this case it’s just more evidence that Arsenal can’t attract the type of players they need to dig them out of the hole they’ve become entrenched in.

However, it’s not a problem according to Raul Sanllehi who said,

“Fortunately the image of Arsenal is strong enough. We are a reference in the football world, so when Arsenal knocks on the door of players it’s a different knock than other clubs.
‘Of course, the fact that we have not been in the Champions League for two years and we are in question marks now for the next year, that’s not helpful.”

Well, that’s a comfort. I was deluded enough to think that the top stars wanted regular, top level football and also that they cost more than Arsenal are willing to pay over three or more transfer windows.

No, I’m not deluded, it’s Sanllehi, who added

“ The image of Arsenal is strong enough to help us build a case about all the model we are bringing up, the new era that we are bringing up. It’s very exciting.
‘We’re getting a lot from players that we’re talking to, that they really get that it’s a nice place, that it’s a very good place to be, Arsenal, in order to project a good football career.”

Do you know what he’s talking about ? Players understanding the Arsenal model and nice conversations ? What in God’s name does that add up to ? Nothing at all, because Arsenal have been trying to sign players since the season ended and fans continue to listen to unfounded rumours, without anyone remotely close to signing on the dotted line.

This guy is a complete fool in my opinion, trying to rally the troops against insurmountable odds against superior firepower, whilst being equipped with an umbrella and a catapult. Talking of ammunition, Sanllehi offered more incite as to why a player would sign for Arsenal instead of a competitive side that has potential to win a trophy.

“We have a lot to offer to any player. I don’t feel in disadvantage with anybody. The league, the Premier League, is exciting for any player in the world. London, Arsenal, the history, the dimension of the club, the stadium, the facilities at Colney, the fanbase, the followers around the world and the exposure. Really, I feel like I have a lot of ammunition when I talk with players to engage them in our project.”

He sounds like an Estate agent trying to sell a tiny house with no roof by pointing out the view at night. It’s taken a while for the penny to drop but Sanllehi is a bullshiter, an accountant in a football scarf and someone who can attract commercial opportunities.

He doesn’t care about Arsenal any more than Kroenke and if he thinks Stan will protect him from the oncoming storm of another season of failure, he is very much mistaken.

The Highbury Flyer
Anti Kroenke , anti Gazidis but always a gooner. Still wishes he could watch from the stands at the Highbury library.
