Breaking | Arsenal in Advanced Talks to Sign Their Sixth Summer Signing And This Could Be Huge

It seems that Arsenal shopping spree is not yet over with the summer transfer window. After purchasing the services of Bernd Leno, Stephan Lichtsteiner, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi, the Gunners are believed to be very close to sign Yann Sommer and make him their sixth signing under their new manager, Unai Emery. [spacer height=”30px”]

According to the Spanish publication MARCA, the north London club is in advanced talks to sign the the 29-year-old Swiss international – another international stopper, yet again from Germany. MARCA also states that despite Barcelona’s interest in the Borussia Monchengladbach stopper as a possible replacement for their number two goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen, a move to Camp Nou looks unlikely since Yann Sommer transfer to Arsenal could be completed before Cillessen’s future could be decided with the Catalan club.[spacer height=”30px”]

Yann Sommer currently plays for Borussia Monchengladbach, where he moved from FC Basel in 2014, to replace the outgoing Marc Andre ter Stegen, who left Borussia to join FC Barcelona. He is also Switzerland’s current number one, and was seen between the sticks for Switzerland in the recently concluded 2018 FIFA World Cup, in Russia, playing alongside Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka and the new summer signing Stephan Lichtsteiner.[spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]Having already signed Bernd Leno earlier in the transfer window, the incoming of Yann Sommer could mean the end of either Petr Cech or David Ospina at the Emirates Stadium. However Cech plans to stay even if he is assigned a bench role. Viktor Kolar, agent of the 36-year-old goalkeeper, told ESPN:[spacer height=”30px”]

“It is always busy during every transfer window around Petr Cech, as a great Premier League person.[spacer height=”20px”]

However, he maximally focuses on the new season at Arsenal, no specific offer is available.”

[spacer height=”30px”]Thus, it seems that Ospina will have to look for a new club this summer, with Besiktas, Fenerbahce and Boca Juniors eager to sign up the Colombian international. Emiliano Martinez, 25 year-old stopper, is rumoured to be Unai Emery’s third choice goalkeeper for the upcoming season.[spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]In my opinion, Unai Emery’s Arsenal should not sign Yann Sommer, or any other goalkeeper for that matter this summer transfer window as they are well equipped in that area, with the likes of Leno, Cech and Ospina, provided he stays.[spacer height=”30px”]

They should rather finish off their summer transfer business by signing a quality central midfielder, who could start games, as well be back-up to the main players, such as Aaron Ramsey, Granit Xhaka or Mesut Ozil. Gunners should rather spend their money to bolster their midfield.[spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]A new goalkeeper signing will also mean extra pressure on Leno to perform well for the club, and this may in turn hamper his confidence and growth in Arsenal.[spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]However having said that prior to this bit of news, Arsenal seemed all set between the sticks but now everything seems to be in complete disarray and that can also be a good thing too. With Yann Sommer reported to be in advanced talks it means Arsenal will be looking to offload Veteran and Premier League Legend Petr Cech either to Chelsea or Napoli maybe like previously reported. [spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]With Yann Sommer arriving there is a huge swiss connection that I absolutely love to see, we have seen how closely knit they were at the world cup and now having three of them here means there is absolutely nothing they wouldn’t do out there on the pitch for each other and for the team and that might prove to be huge for us. [spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]Probably surprisingly for some statistically speaking it is actually Yann Sommer who emerges victorious when the the three keepers are pitted against each other in terms of their saves per goal ratio which proves what a vital move this could actually turn out to be. So if we are selling Cech then get Yann Sommer and move on to other areas simple. [spacer height=”30px”]
