Arsenal have announced the signing of Joel Lopez, Sam Greenwood and Karl Hein. The teenagers will represent the Arsenal FC U-18 youth side.

Continuing on the philosophy of signing raw youth talent, Arsenal have signed 3 key players who will start training with the youth side and represent Arsenal in the U-18 premier league.

Sam Greenwood is a 16-year old centre-forward who stunned everyone with 6 goals and 6 assists in the U-18 premier league. He joined from Sunderland U-18 side where he had an impressive 188 minute per goal involvement. The English forward has 3 appearances for the U-16 national side also seems like a really good signing for the Under-18 squad.

Previously coveted by other premier league clubs like Manchester United and Liverpool, Arsenal seem have signed a player regarded as one of the best young talents of his age and have beat of competition from top clubs which goes on to show how valued he is.

Joel Lopez is a 16-year old left back who has graduated from the famous La Masia academy known for producing once in a generation talents such as Xavi, Iniesta, Cesc Fabregas. The spaniard will be keen to follow in the footsteps of Hector Bellerin who is also a La Masia graduate and has inked his name into the Arsenal’s first team.

It has previously already been reported here about how Barcelona had strongly tried to persuade the young full back to extend terms with the Catalan club but opportunity to progress into the team here and the chance to work with Per Mertesacker seems to have done the trick here. Not to mention the key part that Arsenal’s director for footballing operations Raul Snallehi seemed to have played here in getting him to choose Arsenal over Liverpool.

Karl Hein is a 16-year old Estonian goalkeeper who has bagged and impressive 11 caps for his U-17 national side. The right-footed player joined from Nomme United and will be representing the U-18 side for the 18/19 season. Sven Mislintat, Arsenal’s chief scout, who is reponsible for the signing of Aubameyang and Sokratis from Bundesliga giants Borrusia Dortmund, played a part in signing of the young goalkeeper and now it remains to be seen how well he can develop and challenge the already overwhelming ranks of promising youth goalkeepers in the club.

Regarded as one of the most promising and talented goalkeepers of Estonia, Karl had trials with Brighton prior to Arsenal scouting him and now under Mislintat’s direction Arsenal seem to have got themselves a real talent for the future.

Arsenal have been tremendous in developing young talent like Alex Iwobi who joined the Arsenal’s academy aged just 9 and has become a permanent member of the starting squad. Maitland Niles who is a product of the Arsenal’s Hale end academy joined the club at a mere age of 6 has also stirred excitement especially in the last season’s premier match against Manchester United where he completely dominated Paul Pogba and a gave him a good run for his money.

Quick thing to note here is that all have signed as scholars at the club and will go on to sign professional contracts with the club when they officially turn 17.

Arsenal have always been the team who prefers to play their youth instead of breaking banks and buying superstars. Arsenal’s first team has almost 6 players who are from their academy and a lot of credit goes to Arsene Wenger who gave a lot of attention and prioritized the academy over huge money signings

Now it remains to be seen how much Unai Emery can follow in his footsteps and develop and provide a chance for these budding players to feature and then excel for the Arsenal first team. Like Arsene used to say, it is in our clubs DNA to give a chance to our youth and so must Unai do for Arsenal is where we play our own.
