Arsenal’s Path to Land Bayern Munich Star is Clear With Club Open to Selling on a Cut Price Deal

According to German publication Bild (via Daily Cannon), Arsenal are interested in signing Bayern Munich midfielder Corentin Tolisso and in the bid to sign the player, the Gunners might end up having a clear runway.

Premier League rivals Manchester United were thought to be keen on the player, but now it is believed that the Red Devils no longer hold an interest in the French international. This gives the North London club a clear pathway to land him.

The Gunners have actively looked at several names across Europe for the central midfield position, even after the club handed out a contract extension to Granit Xhaka. With Thomas Partey set to miss the beginning of the Premier League season due to an ankle injury, the Gunners will have to go with the newly signed Albert Sambi Lokonga.

Although the Belgian captained his former side Anderlecht and even played an impressive 78 games, Mikel Arteta does not see the 21-year-old as a regular starter just now. There has been a willingness to add another body on that side of the pitch and Tolisso’s name has been thrown in the ring in the past few days.

The report from Bild states that the German champions are ready to sell the French midfielder and with only a year left on his current deal, Bayern are willing to listen to offers of around €10 million, to avoid letting him leave on a free the next summer.

Although it appears that Roma have pulled out of the deal to sign Arsenal’s Swiss maestro Granit Xhaka, it won’t be too surprising for anyone if he eventually ends up departing. And maybe that’s the exact thought present in the minds of the hierarchy at the Emirates, who might have learned from their own mistakes of letting players leave on a free.

It is now being reported that Bayern are willing to offer Corentin Tolisso to Arsenal in a swap deal involving Hector Bellerin. It is believed that the Bundesliga club hold an interest in Bellerin and are willing to let the midfielder join the North London club in exchange for the Spanish right-back.

Tolisso joined the Bavarians in 2017 for a reported £35m and has played out a decent career in Germany. The midfielder could have had a better time at the Allianz Arena, were it not for the niggling and sometimes, even serious injuries.

The 27-year-old missed four games for Bayern in his debut season, an astonishing 38 in the following season, 13 in 19/20, and 23 in 20/21. The fact that he has started only 32 games in the past four years is a straight-up red flag.

This kind of injury is a concern that has been raised by several fans on social media. The other concern that the supporters have is that the former Lyon man is already 27 and Arsenal would have a hard time selling him for a profit in a few years.

This season, Edu and Arteta seem to have a definite plan going into the transfer window and have chased only young players who can stay with the team for several years and if the situation asks for it, can be moved on to generate cash, which will make the club’s task of replacing them a tad more economical.

The talks are still at a preliminary stage and it remains to be seen whether Arsenal decide on trusting Lokonga for the time being or add Corentin Tolisso to the fold.
