Arsenal Making Serious Efforts to Sign €55m Rated Bundesliga Forward, Club Willing to Sell Their Star Only on Two Conditions

Moussa Diaby, Arsenal

According to reports in Germany, Arsenal have stepped up their pursuit for Moussa Diaby, who plays as a winger for Bayer Leverkusen. The pursuit of high-profile strikers by the North London side has been evident even before the transfer market began.

The French forward has put up some stellar numbers in the Bundesliga so far this season. Twelve goals and eleven assists in 30 appearances is no easy feat when you are a 22-year-old playing in a top-division league (stats via transfermarkt). Averaging a goal involvement every 1.3 games is a solid number. With such stats in the bag, Diaby has raised some eyebrows all across Europe, especially from Premier League’s Arsenal.

According to the German publication, SportsBILD (via Daily Mail), Arsenal are showing serious efforts to secure the services of Moussa Diaby. Bayer Leverkusen are reluctant to let go of their young talent but would be willing to negotiate if Arsenal meets two conditions.

The first is for the English club, or any interested club, to pay €75 million as transfer fee to secure the move. Such a high fee is expected since the French winger has a contract with the Bundesliga club till 2025. The second condition is that the player must hand in a transfer request for Leverkusen to let him leave.

The report states that the possibility of the Frenchman securing a move to North London this summer rests solely on whether Arsenal secure Champions League football for next season. The Gunners currently sit in 4th position, just two points ahead of their North London rivals, Tottenham.

At the moment, the race to finish in the top-4 simply rests on these two clubs’ shoulders since Manchester United clearly seem to be out of the race and appear more likely to end in a Europa League spot with only two Premier League games to go.

If Arsenal plan to mount a Premier League or Champions League charge next season, a significant bump in spending and accumulation of talent is paramount. Arteta has done well this season with the squad of young players he assembled from the summer transfer window last season, but it’s time the Gunners put their foot down and establish themselves as serious threats again.

Capped five times for France, Moussa Diaby could fit pretty well in an Arsenal side that is full of young and hungry stars. However, others have their doubts that the Leverkusen forward might turn out to be a similar story to Nicolas Pepe.

However, Diaby has been getting better and better with every season. His 29 goal involvements this season across all competitions are already better than his 25-goal involvement last season. Still aged just 22, Diaby’s inclusion and growth under Arteta can prove fruitful for both the player and club.
