Arteta’s Arsenal moving in a different direction Suggests its Time to say Adios to Ceballos

loan deal, Arsenal loan deals, Ceballos

Arsenal under Arteta are showing signs of development and are finally demonstrating a move in the forward direction. Even so, the manager needs support in order to fulfill his plans and the team needs rebuilding in various areas including the midfield and it appears Dani Ceballos is not among those revival plans.

Arsenal have had problems in the middle of the park for a few years now and they’ve been unable to find a creative, attack minded player that could propel Arsenal forward but also orchestrate the defence and pick pockets in and around his own area.

Ozil was a law unto himself under Wenger and a misfiring luxury under Unai Emery. It was a situation that saw Denis Suarez drafted in on loan deal but after all the hype, he never grasped his opportunity and went back to Barcelona as an expensive £15m experiment.

Dani Ceballos was the next to arrive at the Emirates to fill the void and he has shown his class in brief flashes but he has been injured for two months and hasn’t really gone to the next level.

Subsequently, with Arteta’s arrival, holding down a regular place for the remainder of Arsenal’s season looks highly unlikely. The Gunners are said to be interested in Bruno Guimaraes , which would imply that Ceballos could soon be on the plane home and relaxing by the pool on a sun lounger.

Ceballos hasn’t been fit enough often enough and when he has, he just hasn’t been the type of player Arsenal need. He could be in the future, he has all the tools but the gunners are in need of more than they are currently getting and appear to be victims of their own spending restrictions.

Ceballos is in competition with the rising academy stars and Mesut Ozil in Arteta’s current line up. Now before you get up in arms about the mere mention of Ozil’s name, you have to admit that although inconsistent, he provides better opportunities than anyone else in his position.

His appearances have been as sporadic as his performances but in all fairness, he can only be judged for the last half a dozen games due to his prolonged exclusion from the first team at the hands of Emery. The German is out of contract next season and who knows, he could make one final contribution before he makes his final move in world football.

As for Ceballos, I don’t see a permanent position for him, especially with a valuation of around £36m. Although he’s only 23, Arsenal could get better value elsewhere, unless he dazzles in the final stages of the season.

It has to be said that Arsenal are yet to achieve a loan deal that excels or one which is perceived as value for money and it’s slightly worrying that they are persisting with possible loan deals in the January window. They haven’t got a great track record in that department.
