Arteta’s Resurrection of Mustafi is Just Another Attempt by the Board to Short Change Fans

Shkodran Mustafi, Shkodran

Shkodran Mustafi’s time at Arsenal has been blighted by errors and unfavourable reviews, with the defender seemingly destined to leave the Emirates in either this transfer window or in the next.

With his poor form and damaged reputation, it was always going to be difficult to move him on but then, as luck would have it, Arsenal’s frugal board, who are January transfer window ‘non believers’ came to his rescue.

With just days to go, it appears that Arsenal had no genuine intention of reinforcing Arteta’s brittle defence or any other position for that matter, as a number of deals fell through due to the ridiculous, one sided terms, dictated by the folk at the Emirates.

Coincidentally, as Arsenal were failing to land….well, anyone, Mikel Arteta announced that Shkodran Mustafi might still have a future in North London. Surprised ? Not really !

Under the circumstances, this whole business appears to almost scripted because Arsenal football club are known for using every excuse under the sun to avoid spending money and they have made Arteta the unwilling co conspirator in this unholy mess.

Fate took a starring role on Monday when Shkodran Mustafi was stretchered off with an ankle issue against Bournemouth in the FA cup. The German’s absence could force Arsenal into action in the transfer market, either with a loan or permanent signing, however, the transfer pool of players is becoming increasingly small.

One has to question if Arsenal entered into negotiations with any genuine desire to secure additional personnel. This failure to land decent targets could cost Arsenal far more than an entry slot into the Champions or Europa leagues.

Raul Sanllehi may have no choice but to ensure that someone, anyone, salvages the £7.5m transfer deal for Pablo Mari from Flamengo, after reports surfaced that the deal was over.

  1. We literally signed a centre back and are on the verge of signing a right back. That’s two players. Both in defence. A bit of common sense should help you, you unseasoned cabbage.
