Arsenal Reject Third Bid for Xhaka With AS Roma Unwilling to Increase Their Offer For Now

Arsenal and Roma are still in the negotiation table for Granit Xhaka, according to a report by John Solano via Italian news outlet Roma Press.

The Swiss international was hopeful of finding an agreement with the Italian side before the commencement of Euros.

The player had already agreed personal with Roma, but the final fee for the services of the 28-year-old is proving to be a stumbling block with both clubs yet to make some headway on that.

New Roma manager Jose Mourinho apparently wants the former Borussia Monchengladbach as his first signing at the Stadio Olimpico and has so far seen two earlier bids rejected by his former rivals.

The Portuguese tactician and present Roma manager is believed to be a huge admirer of the Arsenal man, “Xhaka is the main man in the entire Arsenal midfield, you can’t see it unless I lend you one of my eyes,” said Mourinho in 2019, who has previously tried to sign the Swiss ace.

After Arsenal rejected the third offer for the Switzerland international, it is still to be seen whether the Giallorossi will return with an improved bid for Xhaka but as things stand, Roma would prefer to wait and see how the situation evolves till the Euro’s conclude.

However, as things stand, waiting until the end of the Euros to make a solid offer looks rational as the player tries to have the European Championships as his only focal point. The midfielder himself told the media:

“There are always rumours as soon as the transfer market opens but I don’t want to talk about my future.

“I am 100 percent focused here with the national team… what happens afterwards, you will then get to know about it.”

If a club intends to go a completely new way about things, they have to find new pieces for it. They can’t keep using the old pieces and expect different results.

Personally, I would be more than happy if Xhaka leaves. The Swiss has been far too error prone in the Premier League. But that doesn’t mean he’s a bad player.

The 28-year-old can thrive in leagues such as Serie-A and Bundesliga, where the midfielders usually have more time on the ball.

What makes this deal even better for Roma is his off-pitch leadership qualities. Not only that, the midfielder is also considered a good presence in the dressing room.

If Arsenal receive a good offer of around 20 million for their former captain, it can prove be an excellent deal on both ends.
