Reports suggest that the Red Devils are in negotiations with Ashley Young to sign a new 12 month contract extension. But does Ashley Young see a future at United? Although they are in negotiations, Young has asked for assurances from the manager about his role at the club with his current contract due at the end of this season.
Rob Dawson of ESPN FC reported that the England international has been offered a 12-month extension with an option of a further year, but the winger wants to know how manager Jose Mourinho will use him. With the addition of Diogo Dalot to the squad this summer and Valencia soon returning from injury, Young will now have to fight for a spot in the starting XI.

Ashley Young joined United from Aston Villa in 2011 and established himself as a wide attacking player but switched to full-back in the past few seasons to prolong his career at Old Trafford. While this has brought about good defensive abilities, he has lost the creative skills that make a good full-back.
Also, he doesn’t provide the pace or ability to outrun his opposite numbers with the ball which in a way restricts United to use offensive tactics. Moreover, new addition Dalot and club-captain Antonio Valencia does provide these options.
Young has had a good season so far, starting regularly at right-back and also captaining the side in the absence of regular skipper Antonio Valencia with Pogba removed from captaincy in September. But with the rise in form for Luke Shaw, in whose place he played earlier and the signing of Dalot, he maybe seeing fewer starts in the upcoming season. Negotiations are at an early stage but he is keen to continue here.

Ashley Young has made a total of 214 appearances for the Red Devils so far in all competitions, having also won 39 caps for his country. He started five games for England at the World Cup in June this year including each of the 3 knockout games. His trophy cabinet includes the Premier League and FA Cup with United.
We hope to see a positive outcome from the negotiations as Young, being a senior player, has tons of experience to him which could be useful for grooming the young talent at Old Trafford for the future challenges that lie ahead.
