Aston Villa Interested in Arsenal Midfielder Emile Smith Rowe. Surely Arsenal Wouldn’t !!

Emile Smith Rowe, Aston Villa

The transfer window is going to be incredibly intense and interesting and there are going to be a lot of changes in personnel with many of the Premier Leagues clubs just to keep pace next term. Arsenal will be looking to bolster with up to four additions in key areas, but one surprise is the story featured in The Telegraph (via Metro) suggesting that Aston Villa are interested in Emile Smith Rowe.

The Hale End prospect finally got his big break in the last campaign and has been embraced by the fans who have a history of forming lasting attachments to their young stars, so news of Villa’s interest will be met with complete disdain.

Emile Smith Rowe has delivered consistently in an otherwise disappointing campaign and fans hope to witness his transformation into the homegrown, playmaking number ten over the next few years, so surely Arsenal wouldn’t even consider an offer from Aston Villa, even if it were substantial.

Recent valuations have been fairly modest with one suggesting that the midfielder/winger is worth £11.7m but it’s not hard to imagine him achieving double that in a transfer window. Yet what message would that send out as Arteta looks to solve the most complicated football puzzle in the Premier League?

It could be seen as selling off prized assets to finance new players but more importantly, it would be yet another example of the owner’s complete disregard for both the club and its fan base, something Arsenal have excelled at since Kroenke took full control.

It would be a betrayal of skill, patience, and perseverance of the staff working relentlessly behind the scenes to make the stars of the future and it would be a devastating blow for the player who recently announced “Arsenal is my club.”

No one knows if ESR will become the next David Rocastle or Jack Wilshere, but unless he’s given the chance to prove himself, we’ll never know. Fans don’t really want to lose another much-loved player during a time when there are few pluses in an average mid-table side.

Anti Kroenke , anti Gazidis but always a gooner. Still wishes he could watch from the stands at the Highbury library.
