Varane, Bruno & Ronaldo Starts – Team News and Predicted Lineup | How United’s Lineup Should Look Like Against Villa

A slightly depleted Red Devils will travel to Villa Park for the Aston Villa vs Manchester United game in the Premier League tomorrow. The Red Devils face Steven Gerrard’s men for the second time in a week, having beaten them 1-0 in the mid-week FA Cup clash.

Paul Pogba continues to remain unavailable, while Diogo Dalot is also a doubt after suffering an ankle injury in the FA Cup fixture. Eric Bailly is on national duty with Ivory Coast in the AFCON Cup. Scott McTominay and Luke Shaw will also miss the game due to suspension.

Manchester United Starting XI Against Aston Villa:

Here is the starting XI Ralf Rangnick could name for the Aston Villa vs Manchester United game on Saturday:

Manchester United Predicted XI Against Aston Villa

Goalkeeper:

David de Gea (GK): The Spaniard is a certainty to start this game. De Gea has been in top form for United this season, having started all 19 games in the Premier League. He has made 64 saves this season, the most in the league.

Defenders:

Aaron Wan-Bissaka (RB): Diogo Dalot’s involvement in this game remains uncertain after an ankle injury in the previous game. Aaron Wan-Bissaka will be expected to start at the right-back position in the absence of the Portuguese full-back.

Victor Lindelof (CB): Victor Lindelof has, arguably, been United’s best centre-back this season. The Swedish international is better suited to play in the right centre-back role than any of Rangnick’s other options and can be expected to retain his spot in the starting XI.

Raphael Varane (CB): Harry Maguire has just returned to training, and it may not be ideal to rush him back into the starting line-up. In the absence of their captain, Rangnick can be expected to call upon Raphael Varane. The Frenchman has had a turbulent start to life in the Premier League. However, the fans can expect the World Cup winner to consolidate his place in the starting XI once he can get a continuous run of games.

Alex Telles (LB): Luke Shaw sits out of this game due to suspension. In his absence, Alex Telles is all but guaranteed to start in the left-back position. The Brazilian has featured in 6 games, including 5 as a starter in the Premier League this season.

Midfielders:

Nemanja Matic (CDM): In the absence of Mctominay, veteran Nemanja Matic is expected to start. Rangnick has also attempted to use Juan Mata in a deeper position this season. However, in a game as important as this, Matic’s experience and composure in the middle of the park will be important. Matic has 7 starts and 4 appearances off the bench this season.

Fred (CDM): Fred will almost certainly play as a starter. The Brazilian has seemingly rediscovered his touch under Rangnick. Steven Gerrard’s Villa play an enterprising brand of football, with a focus on holding possession and controlling the midfield. Fred’s energy and dynamism will be crucial to disrupt opposition attacks and help United exercise control in the middle of the park.

Mason Greenwood (RAM): Mason Greenwood played all 90 minutes in the FA Cup on Tuesday. Rangnick could give another opportunity to the young Englishman over Jadon Sancho. Sancho has had little practice in the build-up to the game. Rangnick mentioned that the former Borussia Dortmund winger had just returned to training. It would be unwise to rush Sancho straight back into the mix, and a substitute cameo may be a better option. Donny van de Beek remains an option too.

Bruno Fernandes (LAM): Bruno Fernandes played 86 minutes in the FA Cup and is expected to continue as a starter in the Aston Villa vs Manchester United game. The Portuguese midfielder has been one of United’s most important players over the last year and a half. He has 5 goals and 3 assists so far this season in the Premier League alone.

Forwards:

Cristiano Ronaldo (RF): Marcus Rashford had a poor game in the previous tie against Aston Villa. Cristiano Ronaldo could return to the XI at the expense of the Englishman. Rangnick must be cautious in handling the Portuguese, however. Ronaldo has also just returned from an injury scare. He has been United’s most important player this season, and at the age of 36, his minutes have to be handled carefully. Anthony Martial remains an option but is unlikely to start.

Edinson Cavani (LF): Edinson Cavani could retain his place in the starting XI. The Uruguayan has entered the last 6 months of his contract with the Red Devils. His work rate and passion on the field has been inspirational for Rangnick’s men. Cavani also has a sharp eye for goal and will be looking to cause Konsa and Mings a lot of issues with his smart movement and physicality.
