Arsenal Would be Nowhere Without him yet, Could Arsenal be tempted to sell Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at the end of the season?

Aubameyang, Lacazette and Aubameyang

I can already feel the animosity at the headline because Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has made quite an impact since his arrival in 2018. He is genuine class, has a natural nose for goal and is probably considered to be one of the best strikers in the world today.

Aubameyang has 14 strikes from his last 14 starts, scores one every 113 minutes and added the golden boot award to his own personal trophy haul last season in a three way tie. Aubameyang has just broken Dennis Bergkamp’s 22 year old record by scoring seven goals in seven games but could Arsenal be tempted to sell him to fund more transfers next summer.

I know, it’s almost unthinkable, the guys on fire and if not for him this season, Arsenal and Unai Emery would be in deep trouble. Yet at 30 years of age, with his valuation sky high, would Arsenal be remotely tempted to sell him on before his age goes against him ?

There are understandably two completely contrasting arguments to be had on the subject. Firstly Arsenal would be completely stupid to let him go wouldn’t they ?  They play badly, he scores. They play well and he scores. Aubameyang has goals in him to spare and has fun doing it, he’s practically a one man team and that’s beyond valuation.

Ah, but if they were to sell him in the summer what would the figure be ? What could Arsenal do with that money ? they could put in place two exceptional players that potentially could put the gunners back on track.

Conservative estimates suggest £68m but I’d suggest £80m plus. Lukaku went to Inter for around £74m, so if he’s worth that, Aubameyang would be a bargain even at £90m.

Given the choice, do you hold on to Aubameyang and build the rest of the team around him or do you do what Arsenal have always done in the past and sell off the jewel in the crown ?

This argument can easily be settled by the player himself and he is on record as saying that he is happy to remain in North London and to bring silverware to Arsenal but that could change depending on the interest at the time.

However, there is a but, Aubameyang has also said that he had promised his grandfather that he would play for Real Madrid in the future. It would have to be a big team to tempt him away and let’s be honest if the “galácticos” came calling, could he really resist ?

Anti Kroenke , anti Gazidis but always a gooner. Still wishes he could watch from the stands at the Highbury library.
