Group C | Australia Vs Peru: Key Players, Lineups And Much More….As Australia Face A Do-Or-Die Situation

Australia Vs Peru, FIFA World Cup 2018, Russia

Australia and Peru have never faced each other in international football before. They face each other for the first time in the Australia Vs Peru clash at the Fisht Olympic Stadium in Sochi in their final Group C match. Peru endured a second consecutive 1-0 defeat last week losing to Group C leaders France who are already through.

Australia picked up their first point of the tournament against Denmark drawing 1-1 with the Danes. Australian captain Mile Jedinak scored for the second time running from the penalty spot. This promises to be an entertaining affair with Australia still having the possibility to qualify and Peru playing for broke.

The Socceroos still have an outside chance of qualifying for the Round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup 2018. To qualify Australia will have to win the Australia Vs Peru match and hope that France defeat Denmark leaving the Danes with a goal difference less than the Aussies.

Australia has showed promise in their first two games but have lacked the results. In the first game, they conceded a penalty which was given by VAR and were unlucky later on as a deflected Paul Pogba strike went in. What the Aussies need to focus on is their attacking department which has sometimes lacked flair and fluidity and has failed to trouble opposition defenses.

With tonight’s Australia Vs Peru being a must win game, a change in tactics is surely expected from Australia manager Bert van Marwijk. Striker Andrew Nabbout suffered a dislocated shoulder and will miss the remainder of the tournament and is likely to be replaced by Tomi Juric.

[spacer height=”20px”]

Key Players:

[spacer height=”20px”]

Mile Jedinak (Aston Villa)

[spacer height=”20px”]

Mile Jedinak is Australia’s leader on the pitch. The central midfielder is a tower in the center of the park with a very strong physical presence. His second consecutive goal from the penalty spot against Denmark also highlighted his importance as a dead ball specialist. Jedinak’s leadership and physicality will be well tested against a rather small Peru side who despite their height disadvantage like to use the physical element in their game.

[spacer height=”20px”]

[spacer height=”20px”]

Mile Jedinak, defensive midfielder for Aston Villa, will have the primary role of cutting out passing lanes and keeping the Australian team well organized while going forward as well as coming back. He will look to ensure that Australia has most of the ball during the Australia Vs Peru game and do something useful with it.

[spacer height=”20px”]

Matt Ryan (Brighton)

[spacer height=”20px”]

Australia’s main man is their goalkeeper, Matt Ryan. The Brighton custodian proved that he is a fantastic keeper and his skills are not just limited to being able to keep the ball out of the net. He is a leader and has organized his defense superbly so far at this year’s FIFA World Cup.

Ryan is also capable of starting attacks from the back effectively and quickly due to his ability with the ball. He has played well so far and has conceded 3 goals in which there wasn’t much that he could do. With Australia bound to take an attacking approach for the Australia Vs Peru game, he will be their first attacker and will also look to keep a clean sheet and ensure that Peru go home with nothing.

Predicted Line-Up:

[spacer height=”20px”]

Australia will probably field a 4-1-4-1 with Behich, Miligan, Sainsbury and Risdon in defense. Jedinak in defensive midfield, Mooy and Rogic will be playing as attacking midfielders and Kruse and Leckie playing on the wings and Juric as the lone striker.

Peru:

[spacer height=”20px”]

Peru have might have disappointed in their first World Cup appearance after 36 years losing both their opening matches, 1-0 to Denmark and 1-0 to France, but didn’t lose their dignity. Even though the South Americans have given their fans little to cheer about, the fans have been extremely supportive and have made the most out of their country playing in the World Cup.

[spacer height=”20px”]

The players are determined to do something for the fans and the country and will look to play spoilsport and come away with a win in the Australia Vs Peru game. They have nothing to lose and only pride to play for and will be looking to play exciting and attacking football which will surely trouble the Aussies. With their star man Jefferson Farfan has been rushed to the hospital after suffering a head injury in training, Pedro Aquino is most likely to replace him.

[spacer height=”20px”]

[spacer height=”20px”]

Key Players:

[spacer height=”20px”]

Andre Carillo (Benfica)

[spacer height=”20px”]

With Farfan not fully fit and Paulo Guerrero yet to fire on all cylinders, the Benfica winger is the best bet for Peru to get their first goal in this year’s World Cup finals. Moreover, Carillo’s performances in the previous two matches have attracted interests from different clubs especially Everton.

[spacer height=”20px”]

[spacer height=”20px”]

Carillos’s speed could be ruthless when going forward and will be bound to cause some trouble to a strong Australian defense. The manager is will most likely play an attacking line up and Carillo will be the key going forward.

[spacer height=”20px”]

Paulo Guerrero (Flamengo)

[spacer height=”20px”]

Peru’s Paulo Guerrero probably means more to his country than any other player in the World Cup. He is a national hero and is Peru’s main man when it comes to scoring goals. After having his drug ban overturned it just hasn’t worked out for him as he has given fairly disappointing performances in the first 2 games. He will be extra motivated as this is probably his last World Cup and will look to go home on a high by giving a win in the Australia Vs Peru game.

[spacer height=”20px”]

[spacer height=”20px”]

Predicted Line-Up:

[spacer height=”20px”]

Peru will probably play a 4-2-3-1 with Trauco, Santamaria, Ramos and Advincula in defense and Yotun and Aquino in defensive midfield. Cueva will play as an attacking midfielder with Carillo and Flores on either side of him as wingers and veteran Guerrero will play as the lone striker.

Match Prediction:

[spacer height=”20px”]

Australia are the favorites to win this game but I believe that Peru will win this game 2-1 merely on the basis of grit and determination as they have nothing to lose. Australia are a solid side but don’t have the adequate strike force to go farther in the tournament.
