Barcelona Seriously Considering A Move For 27-year-old Arsenal Defender: Ideal Solution For Both Parties?

Hector Bellerin, AS Roma, Villarreal, Barcelona

Barcelona are highly considering the possibility of bringing Arsenal right-back Hector Bellerin to Camp Nou. The Spaniard has been out of favour at Arsenal since Mikel Arteta became their head coach. Bellerin moved to Real Betis on a loan move and did impress on a number of occasions. A move away from the Emirates seems imminent for the 27-year-old Spanish defender.

Bellerin has won three FA Cups and three FA Community Shields in the 11 years he has spent at Arsenal. To add to that, he also helped Real Betis win the Copa del Rey last season. The Spaniard was an integral part of the plans at Arsenal till Unai Emery was the manager. However, Bellerin failed to impress Mikel Arteta and fell down the pecking order after Arsenal signed Takehiro Tomiyasu.

According to Sport, Barcelona are weighing up the possibility of signing Hector Bellerin on a permanent basis. The Catalan club let go of Dani Alves and are only left with the option of Sergino Dest and Sergi Roberto for the right-back position. Bellerin is a product of La Masia and that could help him settle quickly at Barcelona very well.

The Spanish Giants have had a great transfer window so far despite facing a huge financial crisis. They are still looking for one more signing before the window closes and signing a right-back does seem like the priority. Bellerin has settled in well in Spain during his stint with Betis and it does look like the Spanish environment suits him better than the English settings.

The Gunners have had concerns over Tomiyasu’s fitness quite often since last year. Nevertheless, Arteta has gone to Ben White to do the job at right-back in the opening matches this season. This does show that there is no place for Hector Bellerin in Mikel Arteta’s plans. Therefore, the defender must be quick to find a new club for himself.

Why Arsenal Should Allow Hector Bellerin To Join Barcelona?

As established before, Hector Bellerin is likelier to leave Arsenal in this transfer window. The North London club will then need some depth at the right-back position.

Arteta would not want to take away the preferred centre-back position from Ben White and convert him into a permanent right-back. White is being used as a makeshift right-back but the English international does not have the necessary attributes to become a long-term option in that position.

The 29-year-old Spanish international still has one more year left on his contract with the Gunners. If Arsenal complete his sale in this window they might get some funds instead of letting him go for free in the next summer transfer window. Arsenal can use these funds to get that one extra signing to improve the squad depth.

Letting Bellerin leave will also help the player to get his career back in line. The Spaniard has been off the news for quite some time now, something that he wasn’t used to during his peak years at Arsenal. Signing for Barcelona will mean that he will get more game time, while also playing at the highest level while challenging for trophies.

Meanwhile, a new quality right-back at Arsenal can help them go a long way. This new addition will allow White to play in his original position which, ultimately contributes more depth in the defensive department. Arsenal have done splendid business in this summer transfer window and could continue to do so if they handle the Bellerin situation well.
