Barcelona Look For Suarez Replacement As They Eye Arsenal Superstar On One Condition

Aubameyang Lacazette Arsenal

Barcelona are on the lookout for a replacement for Luis Suarez and have reportedly identified Arsenal‘s Alexandre Lacazette as a potential import.

The Frenchman has been one of few Arsenal who deserve praise, evident by his recent crowing as Arsenal Player of the Year. Recording 18 goals and 9 assists, Lacazette isn’t exactly a perfect Suarez replacement. But playing alongside Lionel Messi and the rest of the Barca squad, he’s almost sure to record better number.

However, as per Mundo Deportivo, the Arsenal man is not the Spanish champions’ first preference, which is Atletico Madrid talisman Antoine Griezmann. The French international has been a long-term target of the Catalan club but a move never failed to materialise after weeks of drama.

Unfortunately, Griezmann would not come cheap for the Blaugrana as his import would almost sure be a consequence of his buy-out clause’s activation. A consequence that would cost the Spanish outfit £102 million.

On the other hand, Lacazette is a cheaper option with very good potential. Though he has struggled with confidence this season, he has still won the most points, 28, for his club in the Premier League. Additionally, he has also scored against the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, Atletico Madrid, Valencia and Napoli. The former Lyon star is clearly a big game player.

Moreover, the striker is also represented by the same agent as Barcelone director Eric Abidal. It is said that this relationship could turn out to be key should a move start to materialise.

It is no secret that Lacazette is a very important figure at Arsenal, but should they fail to qualify for the Champions League yet again, their transfer fund would be severely affected. This would leave the Gunners with no option but to sell the French international for funds. Moreover, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s presence at the club would reassure them of the relief of not scouting for a replacement immediately.

However, it seems very unlikely that the Londoners would choose to sell him. After all, He is an important figure on and off the pitch. The 27-year-old is clearly one of their few hopes in big games and losing out on him could prove to be damaging in the long-term.
