Manchester United had offered an opening bid worth €60million plus €10million in add-ons for Frenkie de Jong. However, the Spanish giants Barcelona have rejected this offer as they aim to get a rounded-up package of €100million. Erik ten Hag’s appointment at Man United has got them trying consistently to negotiate a move for Frenkie de Jong.

The Dutch manager had previously worked with De Jong at Ajax and got the absolute best out of the midfielder. The 25-year-midfielder had moved to Barcelona in 2019. Frenkie de Jong remains one of the most important Barcelona signings in the past few years. However, the financial crisis at the Catalan club has led to uncertainty over Frankie’s future with the club.

Barcelona would consider letting De Jong go if they receive a good enough offer. That is solely because of the massive debt they face. Barcelona would not have considered the sale of De Jong if they did not have the debt. Manchester United are looking forward to making the best out of this opportunity. The Red Devils want to get the best in the business to help Ten Hag succeed in England.

World-renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed that Barcelona have rejected United’s opening proposal. Nevertheless, the clubs still remain in contact. De Jong has not expressed his desire to anyone. The Dutch midfielder is waiting for the club’s stance on this situation. Barcelona was the dream club of Frenkie de Jong and it will be hard for him to move away from Spain.

Manchester United need to address their problems in the midfield at the earliest. They have suffered massively without a proper defensive midfielder. Signing Frenkie will solve half of their midfield issues as the Dutchman is very versatile and could play anywhere in the middle of the park. However, United will have to dig deep if they are to complete this statement signing.

Can Frenkie de Jong Solve Manchester United’s Midfield Woes?

Although Barcelona may not have produced the best football in recent years, Frenkie de Jong still remains one of the best midfielders in the world. The 25-year-old Dutchman has delivered whenever required and has played in almost every position for the Blaugrana. Barcelona boss, Xavi is also a great admirer of De Jong and may not want such an important player to go.

Frenkie de Jong is one of the core players at Barcelona and has the potential to be the future captain, provided he does not leave the club. The Dutchman has each and every aspect of the game that United lack in midfield. Frenkie is very calm on the ball and knows how to break the press. This can help United build from the back the way Ten Hag likes to do it.

Moreover, he is also excellent at defending and that is what United need the most. United need a midfielder who can fill in the gaps in the defence and help launch counter-attacks. In addition, there are no doubts over his passing abilities as it is one of the criterion to play at Barcelona. Frenkie de Jong could fit in like the last missing piece of the jigsaw puzzle at Man United.

Anyhow, the asking price is what is stopping Manchester United. The high valuation will not allow United to get the other signings done in this very important transfer window. The club plan to sign six players in this window to support Erik ten Hag in his first season. The Dutch manager likes technical players similar to De Jong. The previous partnership between Ten Hag and De Jong could act as a catalyst for the move and may help the midfielder to settle in quickly in England.
