According to latest reports in Portugal, Bayern Munich have made contact to sign Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes in the upcoming transfer window. The Bundesliga giants have held talks with the player’s agent to discuss a potential summer move.
Bruno Fernandes started his youth career with Portuguese side Infesta in 2002 as an 8-year-old before joining Boavista in 2004. He graduated from the Boavista academy in 2012, though from 2005 to 2010, he was loaned out to the youth team of Pasteleira.
The 29-year-old began his senior career with Novara in 2012. He spent spells with Udinese and Sampdoria before moving to Sporting CP in 2017. Then, In January 2020, the Portuguese playmaker signed for the Red Devils on a five-and-a-half-year deal.
Now, according to Portuguese publication O Jogo (via Metro), Bayern Munich have made the first approach to sign Manchester United talisman Bruno Fernandes. The Bundesliga giants are seriously interested in signing the midfielder this summer.
Bayern Munich have already initiated talks with Miguel Pinho, the player’s agent, for a potential move in the summer. However, the German club are not the only interested party who is looking to lure the talismanic attacking midfielder away from Old Trafford.
The reports claims La Liga club Barcelona are also keeping tabs on the Portuguese, expressing an interest to sign the 29-year-old. As of now, there is no formal update on the midfielder’s availability and no concrete discussion have yet taken place.

The Portugal international opened up about his future at Old Trafford in an interview in April. Although he did not rule out the possibility of a transfer, he reiterated his commitment to the club. He said (via 90Min):
“I will be here until… I said the club needs to want me.
‘I feel that is the case, the club wants me to be a part of the future. As I’ve always said, I don’t want to be a player that the club doesn’t want to have.’
‘If for some reason the club doesn’t want to have me I will go but if they want me I will stay.”
Bruno Fernandes has been an integral part of Manchester United and has arguably been the club’s best player from the moment he arrived in 2020. He has already featured in 233 games for the English side, accumulating 79 goals and 66 assists as a midfielder (stats via Transfermarkt).
The Portuguese is currently considered as one of the best midfielders in the world and his recent performances is a clear evidence of that. Despite a horrendous 2023-24 season for the Red Devils, he chalked up 15 goals and 13 assists to his name (Stats via Transfermarkt).
The Red Devils are currently planning a major overhaul of the squad, offloading aged or under-performing players. However, Fernandes certainly does not fall under that category. He played a crucial role in salvaging some pride for the club in this campaign by providing an audacious assist in the FA Cup final win against Manchester City. So, it would be right to say that United would not want to lose the midfielder.

It is unclear at the moment whether Bruno Fernandes will consider a move to Bayern Munich or choose to stay at Old Trafford. The playmaker is currently busy on international duty for Portugal, participating in the Euros Championship.
The summer will make things clear as he will decide his future after the Euro 2024 campaign. Even if he decides to stay at Old Trafford, he will want to have assurances that the club are taking all the steps to make Manchester United capable of fighting for the Premier League title.
