Wissam Ben Yedder is a name that United fans don’t particularly enjoy uttering. He was the man whose two goals knocked them out of the Champions League two seasons ago.
In hindsight, those goals caused a lot more ruckus at United than just exiting the Champions League. In fact, it was the catalyst for the start of Jose Mourinho’s downfall at United, in a game which really brought his fractured relationship with Paul Pogba to the forefront for the first time.
Manchester United are reportedly set to trigger Wissam Ben Yedder's release clause.
That's the gossip.

So, why has Ben Yedder’s name suddenly resurfaced amongst United fans on social media? Well, while the striker may have been the one to light the fire that burnt the house down at Old Trafford, he is now being seen as the savior they need to put the fire out.
For all his goal scoring exploits, Romelu Lukaku has really struggled in a Manchester United shirt. The club’s no.9 has put up bang average performances on several occasions and his movement and first touch has been criticized constantly.
Despite being one of the fastest players in the league, his labored style of running following his bulky transformation since his move from Everton has also slowed him down a lot.
The United fans just haven’t been able to fully take to him. It is fair to say that he hasn’t fully taken to them either. At times last season, he chose not to celebrate some of his goals in retaliation to the criticism he has received, which only served to stain his image even further in their eyes.
His form also dropped off badly and he managed just 15 goals and 4 assists in 45 appearances last season. He found himself replaced by Marcus Rashford eventually, who started brilliantly, but also saw his form dip badly.
Now, with the club struggling for a consistent goalscorer, they have turned their heads toward the man who put them to the sword two seasons ago. Wissam Ben Yedder managed a super tally of 30 goals and 11 assists in 53 games for Sevilla last season, and is a major target for United, according to ABC de Seville.
United will be encouraged by Ben Yedder’s reasonable release clause of €40 million, and could use the money from Lukaku’s proposed move to Inter to replace him immediately.
