If you are a player looking to avoid tricky and messy situations, then Manchester United is certainly not the club to be at and Anthony Martial is one player facing those kind of situations right now. United, post Sir Alex Ferguson era, have been involved in more controversies and tricky situations than silverware. With the sensational move of Jose Mourinho, the gossip seems to be yet again taking center stage instead of coveted silverware.
Anthony Martial is reportedly considering signing a new contract at Man United because he believes he can outlast Mourinho at the club.

Mourinho endured a tough second season at Manchester United, full of controversies and criticism and devoid of any silverware. United seem to take the center stage yet again, and they were for all the wrong reasons. His outburst in the media disregarding United’s ‘heritage’, his treatment of Luke Shaw, his spat with Paul Pogba, the unexpected loss to Sevilla and several such negative news about the club had been the main focus.
But, amid all the controversies, a controversy lay dormant, now and then it would come around and then again be pushed into the back pages as more controversies about the club flow in and this time, its Anthony Martial whose future has been brought into question. Martial was bought from Monaco for a reported £44.1 million under Louis Van Gaal’s management. He had a stellar first season at Manchester United scoring 17 goals in all competitions as he was the club’s top scorer for the season and his second season was equally impressive.
Anthony Martial was involved in more goals per 90 minutes than any other United player last season. Amazing! Imagine what he could do if he played more! #mufc

But ever since Jose Mourinho arrived, the promising youngster has turned into a non-regular and often fringe player. He was made to change his position, as he saw a switch from playing as a number 9 into an inverted winger role. All the tracking back and helping the defense had made him visibly unhappy.
He has played as a striker and the change of position had affected the youngster’s form adversely. Once considered the best young talent in Europe, Martial has suffered under Mourinho. Struggling to put in a considerable string of good performances, he has often been overlooked by the United manager. He most definitely has not been able to replicate his first season form.
Limited playing time has frustrated the youngster. His development, like all other players his age, depends on game time. He has been linked with moves away from United to find the same. With United heavy in the left-wing position, Martial’s requirement has mostly been limited and because of that, Mourinho wanted Martial transferred out.
The board wanted to keep Martial, but Jose is often known to value experience over youngsters. He wanted players that the board had considered short-term investments. This clash of philosophies has seen Mourinho not been supplied with the his transfer targets and has left an air of uncertainty regarding his future.
Meanwhile, Martial is almost at the end of his contract. Reports flowed in that the Frenchman would renew his contract at the Mancunian club. But the sudden change of heart for a want-away player has brought forward speculation about Jose Mourinho’s future at United. It is expected that if Martial signs a fresh deal then that would certainly mean that the 22-year-old is sure that he shall outlast Mourinho at the club.
No one can doubt Anthony Martial's commitment to Manchester United if he's really willing to sign a long-term contract under a manager that doesn't fancy him. He might think he can outlast him, but that's still a massive commitment to make if it happens. Great for the club.

The board will not want to lose Anthony Martial considering the examples of Kevin De Bruyne and Mohammad Salah. Furthermore, United had been known to be a club who promote youth. With a manager who values experience over youth at the helm, it is difficult to stick to United’s values. Several questions were raised when Mourinho was rumored to join United. He had not been known to be a manager who produces or promotes youth.
In spite of contradicting philosophies, the board appointed Mourinho, ensuring a clash of ideologies. A clash that would make promising youngsters like Anthony Martial look elsewhere and leave United.
