4-2-3-1 With Ronaldo, Eriksen & Maguire | How Would Man United’s Starting XI Could Look Like Against Brentford

Brentford vs Manchester United

What will be the Manchester United line-up as they return to action this Saturday in the Premier League against Brentford?

After a disappointing opening weekend loss to Brighton & Hove Albion, Erik Ten Hag’s side travels down south to take on Brentford. Having witnessed a calamitous performance at Old Trafford last weekend, Ten Hag is expected to make a number of changes to the starting line-up, with United hopeful of avoiding a negative result this weekend.

With the club having seemingly intensified their transfer activity in recent days, United will be looking to secure three points this weekend despite the justified negativity surrounding the club in recent weeks.

With the manager having changed the tactical approach to games since pre-season, the squad will be keen on delivering a promising result against a resolute Brentford ahead of a challenging tie against rival Liverpool the following weekend.

Manchester United Starting Line-Up Against Brentford

Expected to stick to his primary formation whilst making changes to the personnel deployed within, Ten Hag will be looking to witness a relatively improved execution of responsibilities this weekend. With the team having shown signs of inadequacies against Brighton, the manager will be looking for significant improvement in the team’s collective display on Saturday.

Goalkeeper

David De Gea (GK): Although having had his weaknesses exploited by Brighton, De Gea is expected to retain his place between the sticks this Saturday. With United still to acquire a second-choice keeper, the Spaniard is likely to continue remaining a first-team regular over the coming weeks.

Defenders

Diogo Dalot (RB): Having established himself as a first-team regular in this pre-season, Dalot will be hoping to deliver notable performances moving forward. Expected to have a challenging game on Saturday, the Portuguese full-back will be keen on improving his display from the opening weekend.

Harry Maguire (RCB): Amongst United’s better-performing defenders last weekend, Maguire will be keen on delivering consistent performances moving forward. Expected to retain his spot in the starting line-up, the centre-back will be looking to return to his best over the coming weeks.

Lisandro Martinez (LCB): A decent outing saw Martinez deliver a healthy account of himself against Brighton. Yet to perform to his potential owing to new surroundings, the Argentine will be looking to cement his place in the starting line-up moving forward.

Tyrell Malacia (LB): With Luke Shaw having delivered an underwhelming performance last weekend, Malacia is expected to displace the Englishman this Saturday. Amongst the brightest performers in the squad during pre-season, the Dutch full-back will be looking to make the best of his opportunities moving forward.

Midfielders

Fred (CM): Despite a disappointing outing against Brighton, Fred is expected to retain his place owing to a lack of options in midfield, heading into the fixture. Having delivered promising performances during pre-season, the Brazilian will be looking to deliver positive contributions moving forward.

Christian Eriksen (CM): Arguably, United’s best player on the pitch last weekend, Eriksen is likely to be deployed as a deep-lying playmaker on Saturday. Having shown commendable quality in possession, the Danish midfielder is likely to emerge as a vital cog in Ten Hag’s plans over the course of the season.

Attackers

Jadon Sancho (RW): United’s most potent attacker against Brighton, Sancho will be keen on delivering consistent displays moving forward. Expected to significantly improve under Ten Hag’s tutelage, the winger will be looking to return to his best over the coming fixtures.

Bruno Fernandes (CAM): Despite having been underwhelming on the pitch in recent outings, Fernandes is likely to retain his starting spot this Saturday. Seemingly undergoing a change in his approach in possession, the Portuguese midfielder will be looking to return to his best form moving forward.

Marcus Rashford (LW): With United lacking options in his position, Rashford is expected to retain his starting spot moving forward. Having shown negligible improvement in his output, the winger will be looking to redeem himself over the coming weeks.

Cristiano Ronaldo (ST): Having only managed to start from the bench last weekend, Ronaldo is likely to slot back into the starting line-up against Brentford on Saturday. United’s most prolific striker last season, the Portuguese international is likely to improve the team’s prospects moving forward.

Predicted Score:

Brentford 2-1 Manchester United
