Brighton & Hove Albion have reportedly kindled their interest in Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe this summer, according to Football Insider. Manager Graham Potter is looking to strengthen his backline ahead of the new season and has set his eyes on Axel Tuanzebe.

The 24-year-old is a versatile defender who can be deployed as a centre-back and also as a right-back. With Tuanzebe considered to be fairly good, he is an interesting option for Brighton this summer transfer window.

Brighton have been sensational under the stewardship of boss Graham Potter during the 2021-22 campaign. The manager has orchestrated sensational performances by shaping the stature of players and elevating the team in various aspects. Tuanzabe will be back at United after a disastrous loan spell with Serie A team Napoli, making just a single appearance (stats via Transfermarkt). The United academy graduate started his season on loan to Aston Villa. However, the deal was cut short and he left for Italy for more experience. It is said that Tuanzebe has a contract until 2023, with an option to extend a year thereafter.

Erik ten Hag looks keen on offloading a number of players before kickstarting the 2022-23 season. Thus, if a decent offer comes along, then Manchester United could be willing to let go of Axel Tuanzebe in the summer. Meanwhile, Brighton are eyeing defensive reinforcements that will bolster the backline at the Falmer Stadium.

The Seagulls finished three places and seven points behind Manchester United in the Premier League this 2021-22 season. Tuanzebe seems like a genuine choice for a defender for Graham Potter’s starting eleven. The club was short of a centre-back for the remainder of the season after Dan Burn’s move to Newcastle United in January. Thus, Potter has expressed his desire to work with Tuanzebe as it is understood that the defender finds himself moving away from Old Trafford.

Tuanzebe is said to have attributes to excel in the Premier League and needs a little polishing. Needless to say, it is certain that Potter will prise him away from Old Trafford with the player also seeking a club that will guarantee him the opportunity of first-team football.
