Let’s take a look at the team news as Manchester United visit the American Express Stadium for last their Premier League game of the season against Brighton on Sunday. The Red Devils beat Newcastle United 3-2 in their previous league match last Wednesday.
Erik ten Hag’s men remained in eighth position in the league table with 57 points from 37 matches despite their win against the Magpies on Wednesday. Newcastle currently stand seventh with same points as the Red Devils, but with a superior goal difference. Sixth-placed Chelsea have three points more than United do.
On the other hand, Brighton & Hove Albion are in 10th position in the Premier League table with 48 points from 37 matches. Roberto de Zerbi’s team have, however, lost in three of their last five matches in the league.
How Manchester United Have Lined Up Recently
Man United have been fielding their team with a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Kobbie Mainoo and Sofyan Amrabat forming the double pivot. Amad Diallo and Alejandro Garnacho started on the right and left flanks, respectively, in their last few matches.
Scott McTominay was assigned the No 10 role in the absence of Bruno Fernandes. However, the Portuguese play-maker rejoined his post after returning from injury against the Magpies. Rasmus Hojlund has kept his centre-forward role, and scored in the last match to recover from his rough patch.
Changes We May See
We are unlikely to see many changes in the line-up for Manchester United against Brighton. Lisandro Martinez, Marcus Rashford, Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, will continue to miss action. Willy Kambawala, Scott McTominay and Harry Maguire will also be out of reckoning.
Manchester United’s Recent Form and Tactics
The Red Devils have had a pretty ordinary season and stare at their worst-ever finish both in terms of standing and points tally this time around. 58 points is the lowest tally Manchester United have achieved till date in a Premier League season and they will still need a draw against Brighton to reach that total.
Moreover, should they finish eighth, it will also be the lowest-ever finish in their history. Those are pretty concerning stats and Ten Hag’s men also stand the risk of missing out on European football altogether next season.
Even beating the Seagulls might not ensure a seventh-placed finish for them, which is necessary to play in the UEFA Conference League. However, the good form of most of their youngsters is a heartening thing for them. Amad has really looked good in their last few matches, as has Mainoo and Amrabat.
Manchester United Injuries to Consider
As mentioned already, Malacia and Shaw are not going to play against the Seagulls, as both of them are nursing injuries. Aaron Wan-Bissaka should start as the left-back once again, with Diogo Dalot as the right-back. Victor Lindelof will also miss the match owing to an injury, as will Rapahel Varane and Scott McTominay.
