Arteta Looking to Free up an Incredible £500k a Week in Wages And Here is How They Could Better Utilise That

Mikel Arteta, Arsenal

Arsenal are in for a busy summer transfer window. A number of players are on the verge of exiting the club. The North London club could not bring reinforcements in the winter but Mikel Arteta is looking in the market for possible and necessary summer acquisitions.

Arsenal have freed a huge part of their wage bill with the exit of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Barcelona. Frenchman Alexandre Lacazette will probably leave the club this summer. His contract expires at the end of the season and his desire is to go to a new club.

Outgoing players:

Mohammad Elneny and Eddie Nketiah have also come to the end of their contracts in the summer. Nketiah has rejected multiple offers from the club for an extension. Elneny, meanwhile, wants more game time if Arsenal wants him to stay and his representatives have expressed a desire to move to a new club. He has attracted the attention of AS Roma and Galatasaray. His agent claimed he even received offers to leave Arsenal in January but Arsenal blocked the transfer due to lack of players in squad.

The manager wants to lighten the wage bill in order to bring new players that have been on his target. Signing young players and letting high-cost, loose senior players has left spaces in their pockets. Arsenal are expecting departures of the above three players who are in the last term of their contracts plus some other players like Bernd Leno and Nicholas Pepe. This could help the club set aside £500,000 in wages for the new signings.

Arsenal’s Possible Summer Transfers

Fabian Ruiz is the latest development in their bid to sign a midfielder. Granit Xhaka could be offloaded to bring in the Spanish international. Jose Mourinho was interested to bring Xhaka in the summer to Roma and reports suggest that the Swiss could again becomes a target for the Italian side.

“I don’t know what is going to happen at the end of the season, we will discuss it and try to assess and make a plan that can work financially, that can be sustainable and obviously that has a huge impact on the team,” Arteta said.

“Because every window has to be a way and form for us to take the club to the next level.”

“Hopefully we are on the right road but we’re not there. And obviously we are on a road that is much quicker and wider than before because the teams here used to win the league with 85, 86 points.”

“Now to win the league you might need 100 points so that’s a different dimension of a league.”

Arsenal should extend the contracts of Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli. Arteta wants the English winger penned down to a deal long term. Rumours are Saka is happy at Arsenal and will have a meeting with the club for an extension. Martinelli has also been proving his qualities and should also be rewarded with a new contract. The Brazilian also expressed his desire to stay at the club for a long period and win titles with Arsenal.

Arteta could also bank on high purchases with the likes of Serge Gnabry and Joao Felix who would comfortably fit in the wage bill. Gnabry and Bayern Munich are in the contract stand-off with the German club unwilling to match Gnabry’s demands. Arsenal can see it as an opportunity to strengthen the wing department.

Another option for the Gunners is LOSC Lille’s Jonathan David whose arrival at the Emirates can strengthen their attacking capabilities. Currently, Arsenal need to figure out a prominent solution in the striking department with the help of the summer window.
