According to the news that was previously reported here at arsedevils.com, Arsenal were weighing up a move for the Turkish 20 year old Caglar Soyuncu for the summer and now it seems that it is indeed true with multiple sources reporting the same news on his potential arrival.
Speaking at the International Football Economic Forum on Thursday, Seyit Mehmet Ozkan has said that :
“Caglar Soyuncu is set to join Arsenal,”
“Arsenal asked for his youth information from us. We’ll make money from the moment the transfer goes through.
“Bayern Munich want him, too, but he’s on his way to the Premier League.”
Seyit Mehmet Ozkan is the chairman of the defender’s former club Altinordu which is the second division Turkish League team where Caglar Soyuncu first rose to prominence after his debut season with the club and went on to generate interest from various clubs including Sevilla and Besiktas before eventually moving to the Bundesliga with Freiburg.
The 6ft2 Bundesliga defender is quite dominant physically and his strong performances this season have also drawn interest from a number of other Premier League rival clubs like Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea.
The Turkey international, who has won 13 senior caps for his country has also 47 appearances for Freiburg since joining the club back in 2016.
With Kostantinos Mavropanos also having been brought just half a season ago while already having the likes of Calum Chambers and Rob Holding in their ranks its quite surprising to see the club moving so steadfastly behind the scenes in securing the services of another young center back.
Holding also has just been tied down on improved terms and with a long term contract, hardly makes any sense to have four young center back all in the same age group and vying for the same two positions in the team and that too in the near future not presently.
With Per moving on the academy its understandable bringing in Mavropanos who is quite excellent if first impressions are anything to go by but with Koscielny being just not that good enough any more and Mustafi almost on a different planet at times, the need of the hour is a world class first team worthy center back not just another to fill the numbers and hope for him to peak in near 3-4 years.
If Caglar Soyuncu does turn out to be the diamond we expect him to be since Sven’s brought him it would mean moving on the the likes of Holding or Mavropanos neither of which i am ready to see the club do.
