Former Monaco and Atletico Madrid Winger A Prime Target For Arsenal As Emery Searches For A Proper Winger In The Transfer Window

Carrasco has transfer option but does it mean that he’s coming to the Emirates ?

Turn the clock back to the January transfer window, a time when Arsenal had no money but managed to waste £2m on Denis Suarez, instead of agreeing a deal for their preferred target Yannick Carrasco.

Well, apparently, Arsenal are now back in the hunt for the 25 year old, who can play on either flank or as a striker and if the papers are to be believed, Carrasco has an offer on the table to leave Dalian Yifang. The media appears to think that it’s from Arsenal because of their previous interest and it’s a move that would make good sense for Carrasco as well but surely the defence is the priority at present.

The Sun has issued a quote from Carrasco that talks were “progressing well” while the Express goes one further by speculating that Arsenal and the player are in “Advanced talks”

Emery has a limited budget and to invest and £20m from a £50m pot before resolving the gunners main problem seems plain daft.

It could be that there are a number of outgoings which will offset that amount, leaving the transfer kitty intact to facilitate a midfielder, centre back and left back.

Despite enduring a frustrating spell at the Chinese club, Carrasco is still highly regarded and he would certainly suit and improve the current Arsenal side by providing quality service for its two strikers.

Carrasco has managed to score 11 goals in 31 games but he has become disillusioned and frustrated and is actively seeking an exit.

Does that mean he’s coming to the Emirates ? Of course not but he is a good acquisition for around the £20m mark and if Arsenal could add attacking Argentinian midfielder, Exequiel Palacios for £18m, things would certainly be looking up.

This leaves between £2m and £12m depending on which budget you believe and then it’s down to the club’s ability to offload players to buy players like Carrasco and Palacios.

There’s still plenty of speculation on who Arsenal could squeeze out of the door including Ospina, Monreal, Koscielny, Mustafi, Jenkinson, Xhaka, Chambers, Elneny and Kolasinac. They won’t all go on this term because some will fulfill a squad role along with emerging academy players but from that list, the gunners could and should raise £60m, which will add a centre back and left sided defender.

Arsenal have also announced the departures of left-back Cohen Bramall, midfielder Charlie Gilmour and Spanish defender Julio Pleguezuelo, which has come as a bit of a shock as all three were thought to be future stars in the making.

We will certainly know within the next two or three weeks who is departing from the first team and supporters up and down the country must be preying in extra shifts to lose the likes of Mustafi, Xhaka, Ozil and Elneny.

I’d just issue a word of warning at this point and say don’t count your chickens, the value of the players mentioned has diminished considerably this season and I don’t think clubs will be fighting their way to the offices of the Emirates.
