In the world of football you sometimes have to take the odd crumb to make a meal and the news that Celtic have signed left back Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo could indicate the departure of Arsenal target Kieran Tierney.
It’s a nice thought, but in reality it could be cover for a player coming back from long-term hip injury and double hernia surgery in May.
Reports suggesting that Kieran was heading to London could also be wide of the mark because he could just as easily be seeing a specialist.
Sorry to pour water on the rumours, but we are still unclear that Arsenal have even increased on their opening offer of £15m, but I’m sure that only a deal closer to £25m will see his departure.
According to reports from the Telegraph, Gunners approached the Scottish club with a bid of around £15 million for Kieran Terney, but were immediately rejected. Celtic value the left-back at around £25 million and are holding out for a fee closer to that figure.
Although, the price is a bargain for someone of Tierney’s quality, it is a certainly a problem for the Gunners, who have a meagre transfer budget of £45m. To seal the deal, Arsenal would have to splash around half of their budget.
However, the player’s wages wouldn’t be an issue, with the club ready to offer in the region of £70,000-a-week.
Arsenal will pay an initial payment of £10m in year one, the same in year two and finally finish off with the £5m, possibly comprised of bonuses for appearances.
There’s a lot of work still to do to get this deal over the line and although, Arsenal remain confident and it is likely to happen, that could change with a substantial rival bid.

Much will depend on the player’s priorities and preferences. Kieran may consider a move abroad has come far too early in his career and opt for a short hop to England, attracted by the prospect of playing in the best league in the world.
