The Players Arsenal Could Sign To Replace Calum Chambers

Calum Chambers, Arsenal, Chambers Contract Extension

Calum Chambers has seen strange turn of events in the last one month after Arsenal rejected two bids to sell him confirming his stay at the Emirates and his inclusion in Emery’s plan. But the former Southampton man has been sent on loan to Fulham after just signing a contract extension with the club just last month.[spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]Chambers had impressed the new head coach Unai Emery in the pre-season preparations. His consistent performances at the tail end of the last season had also given confidence to the recruiting staff that the Englishman would develop under the new boss.[spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]Emery looked very satisfied when Chambers had signed a contract extension and said:[spacer height=”30px”]

“I’m delighted Calum has extended his stay with us. He played an important role last season and will be part of my plans this season”[spacer height=”30px”]

This is how it had been for Chambers since he arrived from Southampton under Arsene Wenger. He had a great start to his career at right back position but Wenger had also foreseen him developing into a centre-back. With very little experience at centre-back and the rise of Hector Bellerin diminished Chambers’ chance to slot his place in the starting Xl.[spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]His previous loan to Middlesbrough in 2016-17 season improved his game with 24 starts and convinced the previous manger to give him a two-year extension in October 2017 at Arsenal. His performances at Centre back in European and Cup games as well as in the League didn’t go unnoticed which earned him a new four-year contract keeping the young talent at Emirates till 2022. But his strange loan deal has everyone’s eyebrow raised with Emery putting some light on the situation.[spacer height=”30px”]

Calum is a talented defender who has a bright future,” said the gaffer in his latest press conference after confirming Chamber’s loan deal to Fulham.[spacer height=”20px”]

“We all believe this loan at Fulham will be an important part of his development and wish him a successful season”.[spacer height=”20px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]After the above statement it looks like Arsenal are still in the market and would like to buy a player with more experience at centre-back. News are doing rounds that Arsenal are competing “The Red Devils” to sign World Cup Finalist Croatian Domagoj Vida. Domagoj Vida is a Besiktas defender and has played for Croation Club Dinamo Zagreb (44 appearances) and Ukranian oufit of Dnamo Kyiv (104 appearances) previously.[spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]His adaptability to Premier League and his age still remains a doubt while Arsenal chase this player. But Arsenal also have an uphill task of selling players who are surplus to requirements at the moment before buying Vida or any other defender.[spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]Arsenal have experience of Shkodran Mustafi, Sokratis and only backup of young and inexperienced Rob Holding and Mavropanos which leaves them fairly short at the back with Koscielny sidelined till December with an injury. The loan deal would certainly improve Calum Chambers but it will backfire for Arsenal in case they are not able to buy one defender before Deadline.[spacer height=”30px”]
