According to reports from the Daily Mail, Manchester United are looking to land Manchester City youth product Charlie McNeill and are confident of securing the highly-regarded youngster.
The 16-year-old Manchester City academy starlet has decided to leave the club after rejecting a professional contract at the Etihad. Due to lack of opportunities with City’s Under-18s and concerns over his career pathway, he has decided to move elsewhere with both the Manchester clubs locked in talks over a deal for the young striker.
Charlie McNeill has scored an enormous 600 goals for City’s youth teams in the past six years. McNeill posted on his Instagram account:
“Thank you very much to Manchester City for everything they’ve done for me during the last six years. It has been a pleasure to play with some incredible players, I wish everyone the best.”
According to the report by Daily Mail, Charlie McNeill has agreed to professional terms with Manchester United. It is understood that City do not want to stand in his way, but are expecting to recoup a fee that reflects his goal-scoring exploits. The England youth international will cost a seven-figure sum, given his excellent qualities and international experience.
However, the Red Devils are not the only club looking to sign the young striker, with RB Leipzig also being mentioned. Now, Scottish club Rangers have also joined the chase for the Manchester City youngster and are trying to lure him to Ibrox. McNeill’s exceptional performances in youth level have also caught the eye of Italian giants Juventus.

Given Charlie McNeill being at such a pivotal stage in his career, Rangers FC should be the most preferable move for him, as the Ibrox based team will certainly provide him the most chances for first-team game-time, as compared to the other clubs.
Manchester City academy graduates certainly are a blessing for other clubs, if they play their cards well. Considering earlier examples, Jadon Sancho, who joined Borussia Dortmund for first-team opportunities, is on the verge of a move to Old Trafford.
