Lampard’s Chelsea and Rogers’ Leicester Could Edge Out Arsenal From The Top Four If The Gunners Can’t Get Their Act Together

Unai Emery, Arsenal

Looking at premiership form, the picture of what Arsenal need to do is becoming clear. Every point will be crucial from now on because Chelsea are starting to look fairly formidable under Newbie manager and former player Frank Lampard. It also appears that Brendan Rogers is fashioning a Leicester side that is capable of nabbing one of the remaining places in the top four.

It’s early days of course but momentum, consistency and belief are a potent force and until Arsenal find their gear and identity, they may find these two sides a difficult proposition.

The thing Arsenal lack at present is the ability to see off stiff opposition as illustrated in a woeful display at Bramall lane against Sheffield United.

On the current showing, things at the Emirates will need to improve significantly if Arsenal are to keep pace with either of these teams.

There’s a long way to go and form comes and goes, it’s such a finely poised and fragile process but Emery can not afford the gap to increase between Arsenal’s current fifth place on 15 points and those above them.

They are already 10 points behind Liverpool, 7 behind City and 5 behind Leicester and Chelsea after just 10 games, so Arsenal’s game against Crystal Palace assumes even greater significance.

Arsenal are only 5 points above Everton in 16th and 10 points clear of Watford at the bottom and that’s how vulnerable the gunners position is. For a team with the firepower of the gunners, they have scored 13 and conceded 12 which is simply baffling.

Supporters have been awaiting the expected fireworks in terms of performance but it just hasn’t happened…yet. Emery’s team are capable due to the talent available but a combination of reasons has meant that Arsenal are on a slow burning fuse.

Individual performances have been in short supply and they just haven’t been settled in any way due to the constant chopping and changing. Tactics are fine but it’s hard to play consistently when you have no idea who’s going to be alongside you on match day.

Injuries from the start meant that Emery could not put out a strong side and its understandable that he is protective of Bellerin, Holding and Tierney but should Arsenal fall short, this decision will possibly haunt the Spanish coach.

Ceballos remains the most needed player in the squad for creativity now that Emery has decided to block Ozil’s return but one thing we should note is that Arsenal’s coach likes to surprise and who knows, Ozil starting against Palace may seem like a long shot but don’t rule it out.

There are a host of games coming that are potential banana skins with contests against Wolves, Leicester, Southampton and Norwich. In between there’s a EFL clash against Liverpool, a second match against Vitoria SC and the arrival of Eintracht Frankfurt at the end of November.

Arsenal need to start firing !!
