From Chelsea to Manchester United: Could Christian Pulisic Become a Red Devil After the EPL January Transfer Window?

Chelsea vs Manchester United

Despite failing to reach the same form at Chelsea we witnessed from Christian Pulisic in his early Blues tenure, the North American winger has drawn interest from multiple Premier League teams following his World Cup heroics in Qatar this past November.

Pulisic moved to London from Borussia Dortmund in 2019 with a £58 million transfer fee attached to his name but has since failed to position himself as a first-team member at Chelsea under the tutelage of Frank Lampard, Thomas Tuchel, and Graham Potter.

There’s no denying the 24-year-old could and should be a regular starter in an elite domestic division, as he’s displayed moments of brilliance over the past few seasons where he’s collected 47 goal contributions in 133 games played. However, sources say the American is disappointed with his role at Chelsea.

And with Chelsea’s latest manager, Potter, re-forming the Chelsea squad to suit his needs, it’s likely that Chelsea will cash in on Pulisic over the following months.

But who’s interested? There’s an excellent chance Pulisic could remain in the Premier League, with reports highlighting that Arsenal, Manchester United, and Newcastle have eyed Pulisic’s services ready for the January transfer window.

While his old £58 million price tag has undoubtedly lost value, he re-gained some of this during USA’s commendable efforts at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. In the USA’s goalless draw with England, he was awarded the man of the match award and skimmed that crossbar close to giving his nation a first-half lead.

The Hershey, Pennsylvania, born and bred winger lifted the spirits of USA fans during the World Cup. Although his team was sent home by the Netherlands, supporters backed Pulisic and America’s robust defensive unit at the sportsbooks for the tournament.

However, the Pennsylvania sports betting apps will now shift their focus on Pulisic odds to his remaining EPL season. And it’s the Magpies or the Red Devils who initially enquired about the winger back in August, both of which still hold an interest in signing him.

The Gunners also require a new winger, but Mikel Arteta’s primary focus has been on Mykhaylo Mudryk.

Manchester United presents the most likely move for Pulisic

Reporter Mark Ogden discussed the potential move last month. “I’ve been told Manchester United will consider a loan move for Christian Pulisic when the window opens next month. Man Utd, Arsenal, and Newcastle have been made aware by those representing Pulisic that he is available and keen to move in January.

“I don’t believe Man Utd will be prepared to spend money in January to sign Pulisic. That applies to most clubs in the EPL right now – January isn’t a market where they tend to do big business. But a loan move is possible because they’ve let Cristiano Ronaldo go. Erik ten Hag does need additional forwards to choose from.”

Jadon Sancho Plot Twist

As clubs are willing to spend big during the January transfer window, another potential scenario for a Pulisic move to Old Trafford has surfaced.

Chelsea has reportedly shown an interest in Jadon Sancho and is preparing to offer the winger a controversial exit path from Manchester United this January. Their curiosity could resolve United’s claim in Pulisic, who may not need to be loaned.

Also a former Borussia Dortmund player, Sancho has failed to impress at United since his £72 million move from Germany, and the Blues can offer him a fresh EPL beginning in his birthplace, London.

Reports believe Chelsea’s interest in Sancho could evolve into an offer for Pulisic as part of a swap deal during the January window.

That said, Juventus has shown a recent interest in Pulisic, which could dent Chelsea’s plans. However, It’s also been claimed that Cody Gakpo could be United’s new winger, leaving a place for Sancho to go for Chelsea as Pulisic heads to Turin.
