£40m Rated Premier League Striker Has His Heart Set on a Move to The Emirates; Mikel Arteta Said to be a Big Fan

Tammy Abraham Chelsea Arsenal move

Chelsea forward Tammy Abraham wants a move to Arsenal this summer, according to reports. West Ham are also said to be keen on the striker.

Arsenal look to continue their summer overhaul, after signing Ben White from Brighton. Now, Arsenal are looking to add a creative midfielder and a centre-forward, which is one of the major positions they are looking to strengthen. The Gunners have been linked to several names across Europe in the past few months, but any move for a fresh recruit will depend on departures on that side of the pitch.

When the North London outfit acquired the services of Alexander Lacazette in 2017, there was one other club that were closely monitoring him – Atletico Madrid. Diego Simeone is believed to rate the Frenchman very highly and is interested in making a move for the 30-year-old in the summer transfer window.

Lacazette could be on his way out of Arsenal despite looking sharp in the pre-season

Lacazette, who has 16 appearances for France and 170 for Arsenal, has just one year left on his current deal and the club are willing to listen to offers for him. Technical director Edu and manager Mikel Arteta had a clear blueprint before heading into the summer window. They have been linked with young players, have huge potential, and most importantly, will retain a good sell-on value.

Thus, Lacazette’s sale would be a rational decision. On the other hand, Eddie Nketiah has attracted interest from several clubs in England as well as Germany, and may as well follow suit.

Tammy Abraham and surprisingly, Lautaro Martinez of Inter Milan have been linked to the Gunners recently. Both have very different profiles and it will be intriguing to see whom Arsenal end up going for.

Recent reports have suggested that the Gunners’ pursuit of Tammy Abraham has been boosted after Chelsea agreed to lower their asking price from £40m to £30m. West Ham manager David Moyes is also interested in acquiring the player’s services, but the 23-year-old has his heart set on joining Arsenal, the club he supported growing up, according to ExWHUemployee.

Signing Martinez is always going to be an uphill battle. Arsenal’s chances of signing the Argentinian is weaker due to Inter Milan’s unwillingness to allow including players in a swap deal, which would certainly sweeten the deal for the Gunners.

I would be pleased if the club signs Tammy Abraham but not anywhere close to what Chelsea are holding out for. £20-25m sounds about right for a player who was on the fringes of the squad at the latter stages of the last Premier League campaign.

Many Arsenal supporters have over-sensationalized the theme of Abraham being a player only worthy of playing for a “midtable club.” However, that is certainly not true when you consider his goalscoring record. He’s been a success wherever he has plied his trade.

The young striker had 30 goal involvements from 48 appearances at Bristol City, while at Aston Villa it was 29 in 40 matches. In his first season with the Blues, he was the club’s top scorer with 15 goals in the Premier League, at the age of 21.

Surprisingly enough, he was the Blues’ top scorer in the last campaign too, despite barely featuring for Thomas Tuchel in the second half of the campaign. Although a bit rusty and short of confidence at the moment, Abraham is a player who has huge potential. He is also a more rounded player than Pierre Emerick Aubameyang which can give Mikel Arteta’s men a different edge in games.

Looking at the fact that Lacazette is on the wrong side of the 30s, the easiest decision would be for the club to run down his contract. But that is a haunting picture for anyone involved with the club. They have made considerable investments in several players before receiving little to no money for them. Repeating that would cast serious doubts over the people who are running the club behind the scenes.
