Crystal Palace Considering Loan Move for Out-of-favour Manchester United Defender

Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Crystal Palace, AS Roma

According to the latest reports, Crystal Palace are considering bringing back Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Manchester United this summer. The Red Devils are looking at an squad overhaul under incoming manager Erik ten Hag and the English full-back could be amongst the on-sale players

Wan-Bissaka made 46 appearances for the Eagles across all competitions before joining Manchester United in 2019 (stats via Transfermarkt). The deal was reported to be worth £45 million with additional bonuses. He was a regular under former United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, making 115 appearances in two-and-a-half seasons.

However, the 24-year-old has struggled to cement his place in the starting XI under current interim manager Ralf Rangnick. Therefore, it is understood that Palace wants to bring the English defender back to Selhurst Park, given the player rose to prominence through the ranks at the South London club.

As reported by The Athletic, Crystal Palace are looking to re-sign Manchester United right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the summer. The report states that any move for the player would be on loan rather than a permanent one.

The Eagles are looking forth to boosting their right-back options in the upcoming transfer window. And likewise, Wan-Bissaka is among the shortlisted candidates to join Patrick Vieira’s side in the summer.

Since Nathan Ferguson moved to Selhurst Park in July 2020, he has played just a few minutes of first-team football, having suffered a serious knee injury. Nathaniel Clyne and Joel Ward have performed well whenever called upon this season. Regardless, Crystal Palace want further competition for the position and therefore, are considering a switch for Wan-Bissaka.

Meanwhile, there were suggestions of United looking to transfer list a number of players to clear out the squad ahead of next season. Players such as Eric Bailly, Phil Jones, Anthony Martial, Harry Maguire, and Alex Telles were included in the suggestions.

AWB started well in his initial days for United. However, his recent dip in form has made Ralf Rangnick favour Diogo Dalot at right-back ahead of the English international. The defensive issues in the squad also raise a few eyebrows about his future with the Red Devils.

There are growing concerns about Wan-Bissaka and his not-so-developed attacking skills at United. He is known to be impressive with his defensive skills on the field. However, he falls short on his offensive abilities and is behind young talents like Trent Alexander-Arnold of Liverpool and Chelsea’s Reece James in terms of quality.

However, there is no certainty that the full-back will be sold, especially with Erik Ten Hag yet to take over the reins at United. The Dutchman is yet to make concrete decisions about the squad he is set to inherit at Old Trafford next season.

Moreover, it is not definitive that Crystal Palace will make a move for Aaron Wan-Bissaka. He is among the final candidates shortlisted for the role by Vieira’s side. As for Wan-Bissaka, who has lost his place in the starting eleven under Ralf Rangnick, might be looking forward to resuming first-team football at his boyhood club.
