Ten Hag’s Men Miss Massive Chance to Move Ahead of City | Crystal Palace Vs Manchester United – Player Ratings

An underwhelming performance saw Manchester United settle for a 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace as the Red Devils missed out on the opportunity to move two points clear of second-placed Manchester City in the Premier League table on Wednesday.

Although having delivered a decent performance before half-time, a lack of vigour and tenacity in the final third during the second half saw the Red Devils struggle to cope with Palace’s optimism; eventually leading to an equaliser for the hosts through Michael Olise’s free-kick in stoppage time.

Although having been aggressive since the first whistle, United struggled to convert their opportunities in front of goal for most part of the first half. Dominant in their application however, an excellent passage of play involving Marcus Rashford and Christian Eriksen saw the latter pick Bruno Fernandes in the 18-yard-box through to a well-weighted pass from the left-flank with the Portuguese midfielder’s strike ensuring the Red Devils took the lead before half-time.

Attempting to find an equaliser, an optimistic Palace side ensured they applied pressure on the visitors during the second half. With Ten Hag’s men struggling to find cohesiveness during attacking transitions, the hosts ensured they emerged as the dominant side gradually through the second half, resulting in them earning a free-kick during stoppage time. A captivatingly precise kick by Olise saw the youngster beat David De Gea at the far corner as the Eagles ensured they took a point at home Wednesday.

David De Gea (GK) – 7/10: Having made a handful of crucial saves, De Gea delivered an excellent performance on Wednesday. With the Spaniard continuing to improve his output and consistency, the shot-stopper will be keen on maintaining his compelling performance standard moving forward.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka (RB) – 8/10: United’s most notable performer on the pitch, Wan-Bissaka’s overall contribution combined with his timely tackle in a 1v1 situation on Wilfried Zaha in the dying moments of the game ensured Manchester United took home a point against Crystal Palace. Expected to have cemented his spot in the starting line-up for the foreseeable future, the right-back will be keen on continuing to improve output over the coming weeks.

Raphael Varane (RCB) – 7/10: An imposing figure at the back, Varane remained consistent in his application throughout the ninety minutes. With the team reliant on his contributions, the Frenchman will be keen on maintaining his excellent standard of display moving forward.

Lisandro Martinez (LCB) – 6/10: Although having made a couple of unforced errors during defensive transitions, Martinez remained a reliable figure for most of the ninety minutes. With the centre-back expected to retain his place in the starting line-up, the Argentinian will be keen on performing to the best of his abilities moving forward.

Luke Shaw (LB) – 7/10: Excellent in his contribution, Shaw remained a boisterous figure throughout the ninety minutes. Amongst the best-performing players in recent weeks, the left-back will be keen on continuing to improve on the pitch over the coming weeks.

Casemiro (CDM) – 6/10: Impactful in helping Manchester United cope with the sustained pressure from Crystal Palace in the second half, Casemiro ensured the visitors remained solid at the back on Wednesday. With the midfielder suspended for the tie against Arsenal, Ten Hag will be keen on his return for the tie against Nottingham Forest next week.

Christian Eriksen (CM) – 7/10: Composed in possession, Eriksen delivered a notable display on Wednesday. With the midfielder having proven vital to the team’s prospects, the Danish international will be keen on performing to his potential moving forward.

Antony (RW) – 6/10: Despite struggling to make the best use of possession in attack, Antony’s work rate ensured the Red Devils sustained Palace’s attacking onslaught during the second half. While much remains to be desired from the Brazilian, the forward will be keen on delivering a notable performance against Arsenal.

Bruno Fernandes (CAM) – 7/10: Although having netted United’s only goal on the evening, Fernandes’ lack of discipline saw him lose possession a number of times across the attacking and middle third of the pitch against the Eagles. However, having grown into the role desired of him by Ten Hag, the Portuguese midfielder will be keen on performing to the best of his potential moving forward.

Marcus Rashford (LW) – 6/10: An underwhelming figure in attack, Rashford failed to replicate the application from his recent performances on Wednesday. Likely to have just been an off-day at the office, the winger will be expected to deliver a compelling and impactful performance against Arsenal on Sunday.

Wout Weghorst (ST) – 6/10: Making his club debut against Palace, Weghorst delivered a promising display at Selhurst Park. With the Dutch international expected to retain his spot against Arsenal, the forward will be keen on delivering a notable contribution at the weekend.

Scott McTominay (CAM) – 6/10: Introduced to add energy in the attacking third, McTominay delivered a decent cameo on Wednesday. In line for a start against Arsenal on Sunday, the Scottish midfielder will be keen on making the best of his opportunities moving forward.
