Manchester United suffered a humiliating 0-4 defeat to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park last Monday. The Red Devils suffered their biggest ever defeat to the Eagles after yet another inept display, with the London club pulling their first ever Premier League double over the Manchester side.
The demolition leaves Ten Hag’s men eighth on the Premier League table, with 54 points from 35 matches. The Eagles, meanwhile, are having a great run at the moment and are 14th on the points table after their fourth consecutive win. Here are the key takeaways from the Crystal Palace vs Manchester United game:
1. Man United’s Defence Was A Bit Too Brittle Yet Again:
The Eagles scored their first two goals by slicing open United’s defence just like a knife going through butter. It has happened a number of times this season already, as United’s defensive vulnerabilities could not be overcome even after the introduction of Sofyan Amrabat as a defensive midfielder.
Oliver Glasner’s men scored their next two goals with powerful shots from the edge of the box to leave the Red Devils reeling. Ten Hag’s men also managed to put the ball in the opposition net twice, but both of those goals were disallowed.
2. Crystal Palace Were The Dominant Team:
Palace were the more dominant and direct team. They had 18 attempts on United’s goal, of which 10 were on target. The Red Devils dominated ball-possession by having 58% of it, but managed to have only two shots on target during the entire game.

Once again, United’s forwards failed to exert their presence and ended the match without scoring a goal. Alejandro Garnacho’s recent off-form continued, as did Rasmus Hojlund’s. On the other hand, the Eagles looked like a side that had taken the field with all three points in sight.
3. United Might Miss Out On A Chance To Play In Europa League:
The Red Devils will play against Arsenal and Newcastle United in their next two PL matches, both being tough opponents. Besides, both the teams will have extra-motivation, too, as the Gunners are in the race to win the Premier League title and the Magpies are vying for a place in Europa League next season.

Newcastle United are a couple of points ahead of Manchester United at the moment. Hence, even a draw will suit Eddie Howe’s men better. Ideally, the Red Devils should be winning at least two of their remaining three matches to salvage some pride and play in the Europa League next season. However, it looks exceedingly difficult at the moment and they are at risk of ending with their lowest-ever points tally in the Premier League era.
